Animal Land Satsujin Jiken (Japanese Video Game Obscurity)
http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/animal-land-satsujin-jiken/We're resurrecting our Japanese Video Game Obscurity column, which was initially intended to promote the book we crowdfunded (which will be out next year), but proved to be a good format to dig into some interesting titles. This is one of Enix's last adventure games, featuring a canine detective solving a murder in a society full ...

Legend of Hero Tonma
http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/legend-of-hero-tonma/Another super hard game from Irem, this is a fantasy side-scroller that has hints of their Ninja Spirit, along with some Ghosts 'n Goblins inspiration, though it's not quite as good as either.

Monster Pro Wrestling
http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/monster-pro-wrestling/I discovered this game working on the Wrestling with Pixels book and it is a treasure. I mean, it's a *terrible* game because it's just the vaguest functions of an RPG mixed with a random number generator, but it's filled with such hilariously goofy animations that it's worth sitting down with it a few minutes just to witness i...

Cool Riders / Wild Riders
http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/cool-riders/http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/wild-riders/I recently discovered the Sega arcade game Wild Riders at a local Barcade, which is basically Enduro Racer plus a Jet Set Radio aesthetic, so I had to write about it. Along with it, I'm also posting a brief piece on Cool Riders, which is more like OutRunners with wacky motorbikes, but it's another Seg...

Wrestling with Pixels preview PDF
About two years ago, I took up publishing duties of the Wrestling with Pixels book that was Kickstarted back in 2013. By "publishing", I mean designing the book and editing the text, since I actually have next-to-no knowledge about wrestling and know even less about wrestling games, so I am woefully unqualified to actually write much of anything myself. It's been a troubled project, to...
