AMA — "Did you have a fallback career in mind?"
Q.: If you hadn't become a cartoonist/artist, did you have a fallback career in mind? This is a wonderful question. In terms of cartooning in general: No, I never had a fallback career. Being a cartoonist was my One Thing. It’s the only thing I wanted to do —for as long as I can remember. The dream took many forms as I grew up — comic strips, comic books, political cartoons, etc. But bein...

AMA — "What's the piece of advice you wish you'd been given?"
Q.: Best piece of advice you wish you’d been given? That’s a pretty common question. But it’s also a trick question.I’ve gotten tons of great advice over the course of my life. Some of it, I listened to. And other advice, I ignored — mainly because I wasn’t ready to hear it yet. So, yes, I wish someone had told me to focus on writing over art — that my art was going to progress natura...

Timelapse: Best Jobs in Comics
Watch me draw a comic about the "Best Job in Comics" as I discuss an existential issue in cartooning with my ComicLab podcast co-host Dave Kellett. Will A.I. art and A.I. writing replace comics creators?Incidentally, Dave is the co-creator of an amazing documentary about the early 00s — when young upstarts like he and I found ourselves in conflict with syndicated cartoonists who saw webc...
AMA — "How do people react to your doing NSFW comics?"
Q.: What kind of reactions do you get from people you meet at, say, a party, when you tell them what you do?This has been one of the most fascinating sociological aspects of my doing NSFW comics. But first, I have to kind of explain “me.” I’m not really a social person. I don’t hang out with people — aside from my wife and kids. I don’t have a Friday night poker game or bowling league....

Bonus cartoon — Best Jobs in Comics, Special Edition
This month, the theme for the bonus cartoons has been "The Best Jobs in Comics." And, of course, I couldn't leave out the guy who keeps Bruce Banner supplied with purple pants — a lucrative contract, indeed! But, as I was working on it, I realized I had missed one of the most important "best jobs in comics." And the animated GIF above seemed like the best way to present it. I...
