Perhaps it’s not my place to discuss world events or politics, but as I watch what’s going on today, it’s a stark reminder of what can happen when people don’t respect one another, don’t communicate, and selfishly put their interests over those of others. The world truly is a more fragile place than we realize, a fragile web of interconnected global relationships, and when one goes awry it can sometimes set off brutal chain reactions that can be difficult to stop once initiated.
The OF example of this can be as simple as somebody not responding back to a vote request, or making an unfortunate comment on a wall post, or perhaps even a contest host making an error that changes the outcome of a match. Before you know it, people are upset, creators go off on each other, fans and creators take sides, and we’re all getting mass DM’s about why person x or person y is terrible and we should block them. Relationships are then frayed or broken, perhaps permanently, like what we are seeing on the world stage today.
I have no dog in this dispute between Russia and Ukraine. I know many great, awesome people from both nations, like @little_rr_queen ; @sexyangelforyou ; and @runaway_blonde from Russia, and @an.naughty ; @kira.rainbow ; and @innesa from Ukraine. While I cannot speak for them directly I do know that surely none of them would wish for this kind of crippling action against their nation or others. And for those of you elsewhere, what’s happening today is such a vivid lesson that kindness, empathy, and conflict resolution are vitally important in todays world. For if these are not properly utilized by us and our elected leaders…we could just as easily be next.
My prayers go out to those who are victimized by senseless acts of violence in any form. In both this community and in the broader world we all deserve to be respected, treated fairly, and have the ability to enrich our lives the best way we see fit. Do not be the fan or creator that stomps on another’s dream…for one day it could well be you getting stomped instead. Either we all win, or we all lose. That was the principle that kept the world out of nuclear war during the Cold War, and it’s just as true here. I play to win…and support you in doing the same.
