Yoga has been apart of my life for the past 6 years. An ex girlfriend of mine got me into it. Before we started dating one day, I ran into her and didn’t know her that well, but told her I would come to her class (she’s a teacher). I guess I told her that a few times because on this occasion, she rolled her eyes and said, “that’s what everyone says. I’ll believe it when I see it.” So basically, that was a challenge accepted for me😂.
My first class was at a hot yoga studio. It smelled like shit and this chick kept farting next to me. The heat was unbearable and I was not flexible at all (couldn’t even get my heels down in down dog). I spent most of the class in childpose🥵. I sucked at it, but for some odd reason I kept going back.
One day it all just clicked. I was viewing it as a physical practice and not focusing on my breath. I think most people do that in the beginning. Once I figured my breathing out, it was a game changer 🔑.
The deeper I got in my yoga practice, the more things changed in my life. For starters, I broke up with my girlfriend that brought me to yoga, so I guess that one backfired on her😂 but I also started distancing myself from certain friends that I knew were not good for me. Started eating healthier, drinking a lot less- just finding more balance.
I got really into it, a little too into it, I think😂. I was practicing every single day, sometimes twice a day, and I took two teacher trainings- I was literally a monk. I didn’t go out at night or hang out with friends. Everything revolved around yoga. For that period of time, it was great. I was really doing the work and leveling up in my life. But at a certain point, I realized that I was also kinda missing out on life.
Over the past couple of years, I’ve definitely slowed down with my practice. I practice about 3-4 times a week. Instead of my life revolving around yoga, I’ve just decided to use it as a tool to better my life but also still live and do the things that I enjoy. I’ve rekindled friendships and spent more time in the ocean 🌊. Everything in moderation.
Yoga is a great practice that has helped me become more mindful of myself and everyone around me. 10/10 highly recommend. A lot of people have this false impression that you have to be naturally flexible to do it- it’s completely false. When I started, I was the stiffest person in that room by far. I’ve posted some classes on here but will be posting more soon.
