Shamans, courtesans and queens 👸
The choker first appeared in Ancient Egypt and was often used as an amulet to protect against evil spirits, rather than as a fashion element 🧿 On the other side of the world, Native Americans wore chokers as a symbol of power and a sacred amulet!
Many shamans and chieftains wore these decorations made from feathers, animal bones and shells 🐚
Then, during the Renaissance, the choker came into fashion as a decoration for the rich and noble. Gold and pearl necklaces decorated with precious stones became an essential accessory for palace fashionistas 🏰
Then came the 19th century and the black velvet choker quietly became an identification mark for courtesans and dancers 💃 However, at the end of the century, Queen Alexandra of Denmark once again returned the choker to the status of a "noble" accessory. She often appeared in public and in photographs in wide chokers with beads up to her chin! The reason for this was a scar that she got in her childhood, so the queen decided to hide it 🎀
At the end of the 20th century, there was a real fashion boom, which elevated chokers to the rank of universal jewelry for all levels of society, it was worn by everyone: from pop stars to provincial schoolgirls 👩🏫
Now this accessory is in the wardrobe of almost every fashionista: it is worn when going out, visiting the theater and spending passionate nights 🫦
In general, having made this long way through the centuries, the choker took a well-deserved place in our jewelry boxes haha 😸
Do you like this accessory or is it too vulgar for you?
