Being assigned female at birth comes with a lot of things, and while my gender identity has grown beyond 'female', the MPDG narrative has created a lot of unnecessary discomfort for me. I want to take it for myself and redefine it: Manic Pixie Dream Girl* *gender is a construct I am not here to help you or service you, but for mutual support. My mania comes with bouts of depression, and paranoia, please give me room to navigate that. Mutual support can look like respecting eachothers neuro diversity, listening to eachother, encouraging eachother, expressing our feelings to eachother, not demanding . When so much of a real identity that people have is misrepresented the way the MPDG is, people are primed to have weird, and unrealistic expectations of you. I can't save you, even if I want to. I believe in altruism, I do want to help anyone in anyway that I can. But sometimes I have a hard time being there for myself. So many of my personal relationships fail because of these expectations. They come to me, looking for salvation from a broken heart, but I can not make them love themselves. My creativity is indeed a sacred spark, but it is a flame that can not be held or captured, and it belongs to me, not you. Let me contradict the social narrative, let me show you all the ways we lie to ourselves, so that you may find your own light. Do not take mine and use it to traverse your dark woods. What makes us magic to eachother should not be coveted, but respected. I am as much a fantasy as I am a real person. Aspects of fantasy should not undermine my identity, fantasy inspires real resolutions to our emotional turmoil. I am a fantasy not because I am intangible, but because together we occupy a shared psychological space, a dream. The dream is not the pain and pleasure of wanting me and not being able to have me, instead it's something that we can take comfort in. A part of me may become part of you, and perhaps I'll visit you in other dream realms buried deep within your mind. It is an internal world that no one else can touch, unless we want them to. It is a break, a place to replenish, to nourish. What perfect worlds we can build in eachothers minds, and perhaps that can become the tinder for your own flame. Where will your imagination take us?
