We decided not to take the detour along the highway and instead took the shortcut, but it was a mistake, as the asphalt soon ended and a dirt road began through the Vietnamese jungle, sometimes it was just a path where even a car couldn’t get through and we had to ford streams. And also there were rubber trees all around and for the first time in our lives we saw how rubber is extracted from trees. It was already dark again, but we still hadn’t reached Cambodia for another 150 km. And we needed to find a place to stay again. On the outskirts of the village in the jungle there was a lonely house, on the threshold of which sat a couple of families, drinking and having dinner. We stopped and approached them. Naturally, as always, no one spoke English, and as usual we showed a photo of the tent on the phone and tried to explain to them that we needed a place to stay overnight. They thought that we were filming a TV show and that it was a prank or a documentary, because it was unlikely that foreigners had been in these jungles before. In any case, they were so good-natured and hospitable that they immediately agreed to accept us and allowed us to pitch a tent right on the threshold. Right on this same threshold, they all had dinner, on the floor, since they had no furniture and they generally did not use it. They immediately invited us to the "table". The women sat separately, and the men sat at the main table, but they invited Miguel and me to sit with the men and began to treat us to all the dishes they had. Everything was very spicy but very tasty so we sat and drank for several hours, again playing songs on the guitar.
And an interesting fact about Vietnam is that so many people love to sing, that on every corner there is a karaoke bar, because of which we could not sleep in all cities until 5 am and they always sang very badly, but when they sang songs with a guitar it sounded very beautiful. They naturally did not know a single English song except for "Hotel California", so they sang Vietnamese songs and we sang Russian and Ukrainian songs to them. But in any case it was super comfortable and cozy like a bunch of old friends even without understanding the language.
