But my mother is my mother, so when I tell her what I just did she smiles and applauds me for surviving. My childhood was not just playtime, not just learning skills for society, but an actual training for survival in a world. It taught me nothing gently. It was a rough childhood to be thrown out of the nest and told to fly. It was a good childhood because my mother would catch me in her wings if I ever fell too close to the ground.
