I have been training BJJ for... 2 years and 4 months now. With a few interruptions - after about a year, I took a 6-month-ish break to get my financial (and emotional, lol) shit together, do some healing, and focus on editing my first book (and, in the process, learning everything I needed to know about line and copyediting). And then, as many of you know because I talked about it constantly, I had surgery to get sterilized, and so I stopped training from December 2024 up until a couple weeks ago.
All that is to say, I am SO HAPPY to be back training. I am here to stay. ð Aiming to train 3 times a week now.
And I used to feel a little self-conscious that I was at it for about 2 years with only 2 stripes to show. Nice of them to mark the time with stripes for me. ð It's not a huge deal - stripes are pretty much just meant as encouragement and recognition for time put in. At my gym, at least, there's no curriculum accompanying the stripes.
But as a visual reminder that, oh yeah, I've dedicated a lot of my life and time to this... I am excited about my lil stripes!
ANYWAY. I am ready to buckle the FUCK down and learn everything I need to know so that when it's time for my belt to turn blue, I'll actually kinda know a little Jiu-Jitsu. ð I'm definitely not ready for that yet! Daddy's gonna give me some private lessons (he's a black belt) and we're gonna get me kicking ass. I intend to BE ready by the end of this year!
But, honestly, there's no rush. I don't care if I stay a white belt forever. I just love training! ðĨ°
