Weekly Update - Nov 15

So after the release of Chapter 4 of Best Friends last week, I have now switched focus to Chapter 5.
I've scripted and rendered out the first 3 scenes. The scripting is fully in place for the early December release. As a really rough estimate expect releases around the 10th of every month, which is in line with previous release schedules.
To give you some sort of idea what 3 scenes actually means in terms of progress; Chapter 2 was 13 scenes in length, chapter 3 was 14 scenes, while I have no idea what I was thinking with chapter 4 because that was 25 scenes in length :). I think around 15 - 20 should be the target for Chapter 5. Remember updates are usually half chapters, so for very easy maths let's go with 9 scenes for update, so I'm 1/3 of the way through at the moment, which is well on schedule.
As I spoke of in last week's update Chapter 5 will tell the story of the rest of semester 1 up to Christmas break for the friends. Don't expect it to be as 'action' packed as chapter 4 ended. But also expect some interesting developments in the storyline, I'm actually really excited for elements in this chapter.
To other stuff: On my to do list is to reduce the file size for the Patreon version of the Android build, I hope to try and get that done over this weekend.
On Itch.io Best Friends reached 1,000 downloads this week, which I was really happy to see. It's been downloaded on other sites like F95 and of course here too but it's more difficult to get those analytics. When I started this I knew what I was building was very niche and wouldn't appeal to the masses. I am therefore so thankful for everyone that has taken their time to play through the story so far and especially to all you Patreons that have supported me through the development.
To that end I wanted to sign off with some special thanks to one of my Patreons - "Knight of the Lance" who has been helping me catch a lot of issues with the builds as I make them available. I'm eternally grateful for this and always welcome any feedback from you all.

I'm not sure tbh, it's a nice site for promotional stuff but from a revenue perspective it's probably more work than it generates. They are also very slow at paying out and take/hold onto a massive slice of the revenue pie too. Chapter 4 was never planned to be part of the free demo. If I do release it, it will be a paid chapter and it will be after Chapter 5 is completed and released to Patreon. There will be at some point a release on Steam, but I've got to do a lot of work to get the game 'Steam' ready, as well as set up the Steam site of course, I will probably look into that after the new year.
