One of the strengths of the show is its patience in telling the story. The partnership's first foray into crime and they have to confront the same problem anyone faces—you're criminals so you cannot call the police when you have a problem with someone else being aggressive & threatening, you have to deal with that yourself Most people couldn't even kill an animal if they were hungry, to seriously harm another person is a line neither of these two guys want to cross. It was different in the RV when they were in immediate danger but when you've got a captive human it's so difficult to injure, let alone end, them—It's a line you cross and don't come back from
