"[You are certain this is the right access tube?]” Yoi’irr’gi called forward as he crawled along the cramped (for him) engineering access corridor.
Leo turned around to glance back at him, shoulder-length golden-blonde hair bouncing as he did so, to reply “Of course! I can read a map, you know.”
“[It is not the map I am worried about, it is the language.]”
Leo, who had been managed to walk through the tube without so much as ducking, stopped a few meters ahead of him. “This is it, junction . . . Well, the right junction.”
Climate control had been malfunctioning for a better part of the day, and after the basic steps to remedy the problem had failed to solve it, Yoi’irr’gi - a member of the ship’s engineering team - and Leo had been sent in to fix the problem at the source. Yoi’irr’gi scrambled to catch up to Leo, grunting as he was finally able to stand upright - even if the space was a bit tight for the both of them. Leo turned toward the wall, pulling away one of the access panels. “So, in theory, the failed control conduit should be somewhere inside h-” he turned around to face his partner again, who was watching him intently, only to realize that at this level he was at the perfect height for-
. . . He shuddered again, and nearly dropped his toolkit. “[You were saying?]”
“Huh? Right! The failure should be . . . just in here,” Leo replied, shaking his head clear of unclean thoughts as he reached forward into the open access hatch. He reached inside first with one arm, then with both, as he tried to get his bearings inside the opening. There were a series of pipes and conduits that ran back and forth, up and down in a complex lattice of circuitry and chemical exchange, and he had to find the right one. “Yoga, could you hand me the ED-wrench?”
He suddenly felt a massive, clawed hand on his back, causing him to shoot up - knocking his head rather hard against one of the lateral pipes as he did so.
“Owwwhhh~” Leo groaned as he curled up slightly, cradling his arms around his head.
“[Leo, you alright? I thought I heard a hollow ‘bang’… here’s the wrench, though.]”
Leo became acutely aware of something hard and cold pressing into his cheek. He shuddered again, before releasing his head to grab the oversized tool’s handle.
“Fine, I’m fine,” he mumbled, too embarrassed to admit that he hit his head and thrust the wrench forward. It locked onto the conduit in question, and a small yellow light toward the end lit up, signifying the conduit had been discharged so that it could be disconnected. Leo tugged the wrench to the side to disconnect the faulty segment of conduit. As he reached out to pull the segment up and out of the conduit, the lights behind him suddenly shut off.
“[Leo?]”
“Uhm . . . I can fix it, just lemme . . .” He fumbled with the length of conduit nervously, dropping his wrench in the process. It clattered as it fell deeper into the access hatch.
“[Leo!]” Yoi’irr’gi growled softly from somewhere above him, startling him into bashing his head against the overhead conduit again.
“Owwwwww!” This time, Leo withdrew himself from the hatch, falling backward into a nest of feathers which caused him to jump up suddenly and turn around. The junction was black at pitch, and he could hardly see his hand in front of his face.
“W-Why haven’t the emergency lights come on?”
“[I do not know. Perhaps . . .]” Yoi’irr’gi reached up to something above him, and Leo could hear the clatter of metal as he removed one of the access panels in the ceiling. A soft, metallic click, and the light flickered on above them - followed shortly by the hydraulic hiss as bulkheads closed over the tubes on either side of the junction. Leo could hear the click a few more times, but nothing else happened.
“[It seems we have disabled the manual override of this junction. Perhaps if we finish the repairs, it will release the bulkheads and allow us to exit.]” Leo, not sure what else to do, nodded. His heart was pounding in his chest, a result of being trapped in this confined room with this massive predator. He tucked his head back into the access hatch, replacement conduit in hand, only to realize he had dropped the wrench deeper inside the ship.
“C-could you help me, Yoga?”
“[Of course, Leo.]”
Leo could feel the massive body of Yoi’irr’gi press up against his back as he reached in through the opening in the wall and down into the nest of piping to retrieve the lost tool. As the heat, the pressure, against his back grew Leo could feel a familiar firmness growing in his groin. He shuddered again, though this time it was not entirely out of fear. Only mostly.
Before too long, he could feel the tool being pressed into his hand once again. The weight on his back lifted, allowing him to slot in the replacement before tightening the bolts holding it. The yellow light atop the wrench went off as the conduit was charged once more.
“That should do it,” Leo stated as he pulled himself back out, replacing the hatch - and keeping himself faced away from his partner to hide his growing arousal. He glanced down to his side, staring uncertainly at the massive talons resting against the floor just behind him.
“[The bulkheads have not reopened, nor has normal lighting resumed. Whatever the malfunction, it is not something we will be able to repair from within here. Hopefully it will not take the others long to fix it.]”
“A-assuming they know it’s happened.”
“[How could they not?]”
It was about then that Leo realized it was quickly becoming hot - unbearably so - within the relatively small, crowded metal box they were trapped in.
“I suppose we wait, then,” he replied uncertainly, “hopefully it happens before I broil.”

“[Your jumpsuit has been designed specifically to retain heat in the case of systemic heat loss and-or explosive decompression. If you remove it, you will not overheat - at least not as quickly as you might while wearing it.]”
“B-but I . . . it would be improper!” Leo replied, cheeks turning a deep shade of scarlet as he further curled himself up to hide his burning, intense arousal.
“[Why not? It is only the two of us here, and excessive heat is particularly dangerous to your species.]”
“W-well, I still don’t, it’s . . . it’d be embarrassing,” Leo replied, voice shaky as he couldn’t quite manage to meet Yoi’irr’gi’s eyes.
“[Because you are aroused?]”
“How-”
“[The change in your soullight. I first noticed it-]”
“When you p-pressed against me.”
“[Indeed. Now, let’s get you out of that suit.]”
Leo kept still as a massive, clawed hand tugged at his suit, gently grazing his skin as it was tugged down. He made a clumsy attempt to take a step backward, stumbling over himself in the process. Settling back down, he curled his legs up to his chest again. He wondered if he could get something from medical for his poor butt, though he realized he could never explain what actually happened. Not out of any fear of regulation or punishment - it’d just be too embarrassing for him. As he looked up toward the stand next to his bunk, he noticed a glass of water, and what appeared to be a capsule of pills. Next to it, a note.
“[Perhaps with more stretching, you will not need these next time.]”
Next time, Leo thought to himself as he took the medication in hand. He was going to have to start practicing again.
