Potentially an unpopular opinion, however I put nearly all of the deaths of the sick on Hershel this particular episode. Doctor Caleb told him about end stage being the point in which you can’t come back from. Telling Hershel to only worry about the ones that can make it. Being told that if he isn’t willing to lose one then he’ll lose them all cause it’ll be like a light. However, Hershel wanted to help/save everybody including end stage people which spread him thin and prevented him from helping everyone that could still make it or getting rid of the ones who died. Which inevitably allowed people to turn and those who could’ve made it to get bit and turn also. I also think that Carl tossing Rick the Mag and pushing the walkers back alone with the gun reminded him of Shane.
