It didn’t work. “Then let’s count them.” Coach pulled out a sheet of paper and put his glasses on. “Enough! Enough,” Justin shouted. His hands went to his ears as he tried to block out the sound. “I get it. It was more than three. So what? It’s not like any of those are expellable offenses.”
Coach’s mouth thinned to a line. Even through his hefty beard, it could be seen. His eyes narrowed and pointed down. “And why do you think that is?” his voice was low and growling. Justin took the hint. He shut his mouth and pushed himself back as far as he could in his chair. But then Coach didn’t start laying into him. Instead he went to a drawer in his desk and pulled out a whistle. He gave it a blow.
The loud sound filled Justin’s ears. He couldn’t believe how loud it sounded. Yet no one outside the office seemed to take notice. “What was that?” he rubbed his ears. He could almost feel like he could still hear it. The sound seemed to have been still blowing, yet only inside his head.
“This is my special whistle. And it’s going to make you do exactly as I say,” Coach said.
“What? That sounds stupid. Just let me--”
“Oh, just shove it up your ass. You’re going to have to do a lot more than apologize to everyone on this list. I’m not letting you off this easy.
