Joseph just rolled his eyes as he found something nicer to wear. He didn’t know what exactly he was supposed to put on only something a little better than the t-shirt and cargo shorts he was wearing. Despite being a junior he’d never gone to one of these kinds of parties before. Watching all the jocks, who would have bullied him in school for being a nerd, was never his idea of fun. But now that they were in college they didn’t seem to care about that. If anything they were nicer to him; if only to get help on homework.
Walt presented his ticket to the giant standing in front of the frat house. His large hands crumbled the ticket and he tossed it in the trash. Joseph thought it was strange that he hadn’t graduated yet. He’d been on campus since Joseph’s first year. But it’s not like that was the first person to take more than four years to finish a degree. It was just a little odd that he didn’t look any older. He was built like a defensive linebacker with broad shoulders and a bit of a belly but underneath what fat he had was an amazing amount of muscle. It was clear why he would be one of the doormen. Even so it’s not like he was on the football team or anything; though the team could have definitely used someone with his size. “Go on in,” he pushed the door open and Joseph and Walt walked in. Hot air pushed through the open door while loud music blared. Walt rushed in while Joseph took a step back at the intense contrast between the cool quiet outside and the loud party. He felt the doorman’s hand on his back push him in. “Go on.” The door shut behind him and now he was inside.
“This is amazing…” Walt mouthed as he looked around. He started off toward the table with all the alcohol.
“Do you even know what you’re making?” Joseph asked. Walt seemed to be grabbing whatever and mixing it with whatever. He didn’t seem to care. Just as long as it could get him drunk it should go in the red solo cup.
Walt handed Joseph the cup, “try this!” he was so excited to see Joseph try it.
“You sure it’s alright?” Joseph said as he brought it to his mouth. The smell alone stung his nose. He’d put so many different alcohols together that it was impossible to discern what was even in there. When Walt turned around he was just going to set it back on the table but a large hand grabbed around his shoulder, holding him in place.
“That’s quite the drink there!” it was Tony. He was the head of the frat and stared down at Joseph. “You’re not going to let all that go to waste Joey? Are you?” Joseph let out a gulp as he felt the jock’s hand tighten around his shoulder. That firm grip kept him solely in one place. “You know it can be pretty expensive to go wasting all that alcohol…”
‘SHOOT!’ Joseph winced as he brought the cup back up to his nose. He couldn’t believe the smell. “Oh I know it…” Joseph smiled awkwardly still holding the cup. “It sure is expensive!”
“So why don’t you drink it?” he pulled himself down to be eye level with Joseph. The near half foot in height difference made him feel so strange. “Go on,” he goaded Joseph. “Don’t let it all go to waste.” His thick arm wrapped tightly around the smaller guy pulling him into a hug. There was nowhere else for him to go.
Joseph kept the cup on his lips just barely pressing them apart. He slid the cup back allowing the liquid to touch his lips. His whole body shook at the taste. It was a foul concoction of several different flavors all combining into one terrible taste. Even as he held his breath he could smell the alcohol.
“C’mon Joey!” Tony gave him a shake making it hard for Joseph to concentrate. “You can do it!”
‘Oh God…’ Joseph groaned. ‘He’s really not going to let me not drink this…’ In that moment he took the cup and brought it to his lips again. He was able to get some of it in his mouth. It burned. He swallowed and tried to bring the cup back down.
“You’re not done yet bud,” the bottom of the cup was being held by Tony’s hand. “Drink. Drink. Drink.” Tony encouraged. His deep voice could be heard through the loud sounds all around him. Joseph tried to give in but it was getting harder to breath. Despite the burn all the way down to his stomach, he was getting more of it drank. He coughed. “Breath through your nose man,” Tony grinned.
Joseph did as he was told and was able to get the entire concoction down. “Oh man…” he gasped. “I think… I think I’m going to be sick…” He was still having trouble breathing. He wasn’t much of a drinker and his lightweight only made it absorb into his system even faster.
“And we have a winner!” Tony grabbed onto Joseph’s hand and raised it up. All the other guys in the frat joined in celebration. It was only for a second but no one seemed to bat an eye. At least 15 jocks all cheered for a second and then went right back to whatever they were doing. Some of the other guests asked what that was about but none of them really gave an answer.
“So what’d I win…? A trip to the… the… duh fucking bathroom?” Joseph’s mind had already slowed down a little. He’d never drank beer and now he just had an entire cup of whiskey, vodka, rum and whatever could have been on that table all mixed together without anything to help supplement or delude the taste. His body started to swagger as the room spun.
“Woah there bud,” Tony caught him before he fell into another guest. “Guess that’s a little more than you’re used to.”
“What gave you that idea,” he added a snarky tone. His whole body was starting to feel limp as he fell back into Tony’s body. “I don’t exactly drink you know…” There was attitude in every syllable but Tony didn’t seem to care. Nor did he care about how much Joseph was leaning on him for support.
“You really think you’re going to be sick though?” Tony asked.
Joseph burped. “I don’t know… I don’t think so…” He let out an even deeper burp from his stomach. The taste of the alcohol shot back onto his tongue. He held it out. “Man that was gross!” His entire body shook tasting the concoction again.
“Alright,” Tony laughed. “But let’s just make sure if you get sick it’s not in front of everyone.”
“Shure…” Joseph slurred again. “Sounds greAT!” he added falling back into Tony’s arms. The jock let out another chuckle. He leaned down and picked up Joseph up from the ground. “Woah! What’s going on?!” Joseph panicked feeling his body moved so easily. “What’re yoo doing?”
“Taking you somewhere private,” Tony bounced Joseph on his shoulder and carried him down the hall. Joseph couldn’t see where he was going and his entire world seemed to be spinning. He barely even recognized how long he’d been on the jocks shoulder before he was finally set down.

“You have been chosen,” one of the cloaked figures said. “You have been chosen to be like us?”
“Like you?” his head was spinning even faster. “Whatsthatsposed to mean?” he slurred.
The group laughed. “A jock. What kind of jock would you like to be?”

The group laughed again. “No you idiot! An athletic guy! Who sport do you wanna be part of?”
“I wanna be one of those big ass muthafuckas!” Joseph shouted. The alcohol had really gotten to him. “One of those guys that lifts the giant boulders or whatever. Or a linebacker. I don’t care… Those guys are so cool…”
The group of cloaked members laughed. “We have our ways. Now drink from the chalice.” One of them handed him the large chalice and Joseph had hold it with both hands. He pulled it back and opened his mouth. It was far stronger than anything he’d ever had before but he’d also never thought alcohol to have a salty taste. It just didn’t make any sense to him. Or how he was able to down it so easily. His mind went blank thinking about anything.

Walt was already up and walking around the room. “I know! Thanks for inviting me man! I can’t believe you’d do something like that.”
