Mark had invited his friend Andree to go working out with him since high school. Neither one was ever particularly athletic but Mark had always wanted to change that. He was tired of seeing all the jocks able to get just about whatever they wanted. Just seeing their large more muscular bodies made him jealous. He couldn’t stand how much weaker he felt than them. And that’s why he made a resolution to change. He was going to start working out more and get stronger.
For the last eight years he’d kept that resolution going strong. First by watching what he ate, then working out, then finding ways to get even stronger. He’d joined a gym after he’d graduated and asked some of the guys there just how they got so much bigger than him even though he was trying to do everything they did. Some of them offered him some steroids but he refused to take them. He still felt like he was way too young to mess with something like that. And the feeling his large shirts gave him as they stretched over his chest and shoulders was enough to keep him satisfied.
Over the years he’d grown to appreciate that resolution he’d made so long ago. Even if it was sometimes annoying or there were days he didn’t want to work out, that simple goal was enough to make him want to keep going. And with Andree recently showing interest in working out, he figured he might be able to show his friend around the gym a little more.
Mark sees Andree enter the gym and heads over to greet him. The smaller guy stares up at his friend with an odd grin on his face. “What’s up?” Mark asked.
“Oh nothing,” Andree replied. It didn’t sound like it was nothing. Mark had spent enough time with his friend to know when Andree was hiding something. By merely asking if there was something the matter he’d burst out into a large toothy grin as his eyes closed tightly. However that didn’t mean he’d ever tell you what it was.
“Ok,” Mark ignored it. “Let’s go get changed and then we can start working out.”
“Sounds good,” Andree replied. He quickly followed behind his friend as he was led to the locker room. “So what’s the hardest thing about bodybuilding?”
“Huh?” Mark looked back at his friend. “I’m not a bodybuilder,” he laughed,” but I would assume it’s the diet. Counting macros, watching calories, always making sure you’re eating healthy, etc. etc.”
“I know you’re not a bodybuilder,” Andree seemed to emphasize the you’re in the statement, “but I’m glad you at least tried to keep the proper diet with me. Really leaned you out.” Mark looked at his friend confused again. But there was a weird feeling in his body as he did so. He looked down to see most of the fat on his body starting to disappear. It was like he’d actually kept a strong diet plan instead of just occasionally eating the healthy meal. Right now he couldn’t even remember the last time he’d drank a soda. But compared to Andree, Mark barely did one at all. He’d stuck to a perfect growth plan since they were in high school.
“I mean…” Mark tried to rationalize the new memories pouring into his mind. However it was pushing out all the old ones. He tried to compare what he thought was true and what he knew was true but those were rapidly becoming the same. “I mean… Yeah. It really did wonders. After I started working out the meal plan did help a lot. Helped you a lot too.”
“You think?” Andree smirked. His lean body didn’t look like it had a pound of fat on him. However without a workout plan he didn’t really grow any muscle. He was just a lean guy.
“Yeah. But you need to actually put on some weight. Eating that way without a workout program was pretty silly,” Mark thought about it a little more. “I mean I guess it’s healthy but you need to do more than just eat. Working out is what really makes you grow.”
Andree didn’t really say anything. It was like he was trying to figure out how to phrase what to say. “True… So… I made a resolution back in high school to start training to be a bodybuilder.”
“I mean…” Mark stared at Andree for a second. He rubbed his eyes not sure what he was seeing. It was like he was watching Andree grow right before his eyes. The thin lithe musculature was quickly adding more and more weight to it. Pound after pound of muscle made every bit of Andree bigger and rounder. Even without flexing his biceps bulged and chest pushed out against the sleeveless shirt he was wearing. Mark blinked again thinking about whether or not Andree normally wore something like that. But it only made since. Like he said he’d been training to be a bodybuilder since high school. But suddenly it also seemed so wrong.
“What’s wrong big guy?” Andree prodded at Mark’s chest.
“N-n-nothing,” Mark stammered as he realized he’d been staring. “For some reason something about what you said seemed wrong. I don’t know why…”
“Really?” Andree grinned down at him. “Don’t you remember when I vowed I was going to be one of the biggest and strongest guys in the city?”
“I… I… I do,” Mark stared at his friend again. It was such a weird feeling. He could remember Andree vowing exactly that. There wasn’t going to be anything stopping Andree from being big. He remembered watching Andree do everything in his power to grow. He grew taller, broader and every muscle on his body seemed to pop. Mark rubbed his eyes again as he stared at his friend. It was like all those years of growth were compounding on Andree right now. He could see his muscles rounding out, growing, stretching his shirt to the limit.
“Of course you do,” Andree laughed. “Cause you vowed to help me.”
“I did?” Mark questioned. He thought about it a bit more but something still seemed off. There were so many memories of him finding meal and workout plans specifically for bodybuilding. He could remember the countless hours they’d spent in the gym working out. His main focus would be on Andree’s growth. He had to make sure that Andree performed every exercise perfectly to give him the maximum amount size. “I mean I did… But…”
“But what?” Andree had a bit of a devious smirk on his face as he looked down at Mark. The 6’3” bodybuilder towered over his friend.
“I don’t know. Something about this seems weird. Like I can’t put my finger on it.”
“Oh?” Andree was started working out. His eyes didn’t seem to leave his body. Normally he was a little self-indulgent but today seemed to be on a whole nother level. He wasn’t even into his pump and he was acting like he was huge, flexing like he wasn’t used to the 20 inch arms attached to his wide shoulders.
“I’m not sure but everything about this still feels a bit weird. I’m not sure why. It’s like I’ve been your trainer forever but at the same time… I don’t know… It’s like it’s my first time doing it again,” Mark’s hand went behind his head. “Kind of silly right?”
“Damn… I didn’t think you’d be able to notice at all…” Andree plopped down on the bench. “Well shit. When I used this power on other people they didn’t say anything at all.”
Mark stared at the giant sitting with his shoulders slumped forward. “Wait. What?”
Andree’s face seemed to light up. “Oh well. I guess I might as well tell you.” He stood up and brought Mark underneath his heavy shoulder. “See a few nights ago I was talking with my dad about stuff. He kept saying how he wished he’d been more proactive and worked harder. And how I’m lazy and he doesn’t want to see me end up like him. It was so annoying listening to him drone on about how much harder I needed to work. And under my breath I’d said something like, ‘he should have stuck to his resolutions he wouldn’t be complaining so much.’ Then suddenly everything around me started to change. The small 2 bedroom apartment grew into a massive house. Dad was dressed in a pressed suite and didn’t have the giant belly sticking out in front of him. He almost looked muscular.”
“Of course your dad is…” Mark interrupted.
“No you don’t get it. He was a lazy slob, jumping from business to business because it just wasn’t the right fit for him. Over the years he’d grown fat and out of shape. And the further down that spiral he went the worse he got. But now he’s not any of that. He’d always wanted to be a big shot but didn’t really have the resolve.”
“I still don’t…”
“Don’t you get it! Because I told him to stick to his resolutions he did! Now I’m the son of a business tycoon,” Andree said excitedly.
“Okay..?” Mark still had quite a few questions. Mainly starting with, “What?”
“Damn it… I guess it’s still a little confusing isn’t it…”
“I mean it’s not that I don’t believe you… It’s just that’s all I’ve ever known your dad as. Well I guess I kind of don’t believe you,” Mark smiled uncomfortably.
Andree looked up at him. There seemed to be some hope in his eyes. “What about a test? I’ve been testing it out little by little just to see what I can get away with. But what about seeing what these powers are?”
“I guess,” Mark shrugged. “We could try…”
“Great! The only thing I know is that I have to say something about what they want. But what if I made a resolution for them that they might not necessarily want..?”
“I’m not sure what you mean…” Mark said a bit wearily.
“Like him,” Andree pointed to a guy currently doing pull ups. Each time he went up every muscle in his back flexed. Sweat glistened off his smooth skin as it ran through each and every curve if his body. He dropped down and wiped his forehead off revealing the smooth cut abs beneath them. “He clearly loves his more lithe frame. But what if he resolved to be a big hairy muscular bear a few years ago?”
“I don’t think…” Mark started to say but it was already too late. The guy’s lithe frame starts filling out with more muscle. His body quickly bulks up from its trim 190 pound frame to something closer to a bulky 230 or 240. The abs he’d spent so much time meticulously crafting were slowly being covered up with a small layer of fat and dark hair. He wiped his brow again. Hair was spreading faster, up his abs, across his pecs and down his arms. As his shirt lowers back down to his torso a mighty beard takes over the place of his bare chin. However his body looked fuller. His face was rounder as was the rest of his body, but he didn’t look any weaker. Fatigue was plastered on his face but just as dedicated as ever. He jumped back up onto the bar and started knocking out another set of pull ups.
“Damn… That worked perfectly,” Andree praised himself.
“What did..?” Mark couldn’t tell what Andree was talking about.
“Shit…” Andree’s hand smacked against his head. “You really didn’t see that?” Mark shook his head. “Hmmm… So that means even with knowing that I have powers you can’t see through them all…”
“Don’t say it like that! That’s really creepy,” Mark jumped back realizing just how strange it sounded.
“Come on man. I’m not trying to be too bad with it,” Andree said.
“I guess. But it’s just… Did he want to be like that?” Mark asked.
“I’d think so,” Andree lied. Even if he hadn’t each time he’d gotten down from the bar, he started checking himself out in the mirror again. The guy couldn’t seem to stop running his hands through the dense fur around his belly and chest. His already high degree of confidence only seemed to have gone up.
“Okay…” Mark wasn’t sure how much he believed the lie, but seeing the guy so proud of his body he couldn’t imagine him wanting to be anything else.
“But what if I tried something that would be impossible?” Andree looked off in the distance and around the gym. There was an older man who caught his eye that he just wouldn’t stop looking at. The man was on the leg press slowly raising and lowering the weight. His trim body was clearly kept in shape for a lifetime but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t be far weaker than he’d been when he was younger. The skin covering the taught muscles sagged around his body. “What if he vowed never to age past 25?”
“How could that even be..?” Mark started off again but seemed to be cut off. He wasn’t sure what made him stop wanting to talk. It was just that he didn’t understand how he was going to finish the sentence. That was all because the man in front of him was rapidly growing younger. Each press he did on the machine seemed to drop his age down by another 5 years. The bald head of his rapidly gained more and more hair. It’s dark shine glistened in the bright lights of the gym.
Every bit of loose and flabby skin tightened against his body. Muscles grew underneath it, pulling it taught across each and every one of them. They grew larger filling in the empty space around him. The machine naturally seemed to gain more weight to adjust to his new body. The white stained sleeveless shirt gained a bright blue color, offsetting him with the blacks and grays of the gym. It strained across his ballooning pecs and dipped further down his armpits than it had previously allowing him to show off his impressive lats. Even some of his abs were able to poke out whenever he moved fast enough, as the fabric seemed to move out of the way.
“Damn,” Andree smiled. “I didn’t even have to say he vowed to be a bodybuilder. Must have already been one…”
“Wait. What?!” Mark was confused again. He wasn’t even sure what guy Andree had even been talking about. There were so many guys around that age that he couldn’t pick out which one was which.
Andree just laughed and gave his friend a pat on the back. “Don’t worry about it bud.”
“But…” Mark tried to interject.
“It’s alright,” Andree dismissed again. “You vowed not to worry about my powers.”
“I did?” Mark stared up at his friend a little confused. Something deep inside him was telling him he needed to care. If Andree had some kind of power to change reality he needed to care. He needed to be able to tell Andree when to stop. But he didn’t. It was something he’d told himself he wouldn’t care about.
But none of that mattered as Trent walked into the gym. The jock had always seemed to make it his duty to bother Andree when they were in school. “What if I changed their sexuality..?” Andree teased with himself.
For a second Mark felt like he should say something. That he should tell them to run or tell Andree to leave them alone. But he’d remembered that he’d made a resolution not to interfere when Andree was using his powers. But as he looked at the guys he wasn’t sure what was happening. Trent was still incredibly fit. The bright pink sleeveless shirt with sparkles set him apart from everyone else in the gym. Not to mention the soft blue shorts that cupped around his ass and were all the way up his legs. Normally the gym wouldn’t allow shorts that short just in case something were to pop out. But because Trent was so small that wasn’t ever going to be an issue. Every step his muscular body took met gently with the floor. There was a guy staring at him from afar blushing every time Trent looked over at him.
“He vowed to be more forward,” Andree grinned.
The guy crossed the gym to go talk to Trent. The big jock beamed at his new friend. Before Mark knew it the two were working out together. Closer than most guys who worked out together but Mark wasn’t about to stop Trent from being the man he wanted to be.
“Alright,” Andree clapped his hands drawing Mark’s attention again. “I think that’s enough for today.”
“What? But we’ve barely worked out,” Mark said. “You have to at least do it for an hour!”
“Nah…” Andree laughed. He threw his muscular arm over Mark’s body and started leading him to the locker room. “It’s alright man. We’ll start tomorrow.”
“But what about your resolution?”
Andree let out a heavier laugh. “It’s alright. I think I’ll be fine.”
Mark wasn’t sure what to think as he followed Andree into the locker room. He seemed so confused right now. But then his eyes wandered over to Andree who was currently staring at him. “Dude. What’s up with you today?”
“Nothing. I’m just wondering if something would work…” He trailed off and wouldn’t stop staring at Mark’s body as he undressed. For the first time in a long time Mark felt a little self-conscious about his body. Compared to someone like Andree he looked like nothing.
“If what would work?” Mark found himself saying. He tried to play it off like it wasn’t bothering him but he couldn’t quite convince himself of that either.
“What if I made a resolution to make guys be more interested in me?” Andree joked.
“Your powers? I don’t think that’s how it…” Mark found himself trailing off as he looked at his muscular friend’s shirtless body. The heavy pecs hanging just above that dry six pack suddenly looked so nice. He’d never thought of Andree, or any of the other guys in the gym, in a sexual way. But now he felt a weird urge overcome him.
“Something the matter?” Andree asked. There was a sly grin crossing his face. He knew something was up but wasn’t saying what it was.
“What? No!” Mark fought off his stare as he went back to his locker. He tried to hide his face as red filled it. But there was no way he’d be able to hide the long rod sticking out in front of him. Seeing Andree’s shirtless body had been his motivation. His reason for wanting to go and join a gym. It still didn’t seem right. But he couldn’t ignore his current feelings.
