“Pretty much!? How is this okay! How are you able to sit there and act like this is normal? This isn’t normal!” Colson raised his voice. He was starting to get agitated again. Hair grew out on his hands as he gripped the steering wheel ever so tightly.
“I don’t really know what you mean…” Andrew replied. “I mean if it wasn’t going to happen to you it was going to happen to me. I was the original target. So why should I worry?”
“I don’t know! Fuck! I don’t know… It’s just,” Colson paused. He wasn’t sure what he wanted to say right now. Thoughts were running through his head and all he could think about was the pizza shop again. Or Harry in the jail cell. Or who else he might have changed. I was supposed to be there, finally able to make the people around me happy and then you come in and screw everything up.”
Colson leaned back into the driver’s seat. “The blood moon?” he asked.
“Yep. Supposedly in dark magic it has all kinds of magical properties. Doesn’t come out very often but when born under one, it’s supposed to make the person incredibly powerful. But if a witch were to plan to have a child under one both the child and witch will die in the child birth, if the baby is delivered underneath it. So the only way for it to happen is by sheer chance that some normal person is able to do it. And then teach them as they grow up.”
The monologue didn’t seem to make much sense to Colson. He wasn’t sure what all he was supposed to think about this. He’d never thought about blood moons other than jokes farmers would say about their wives. “So I was born under one too?”
“I guess,” Andrew shrugged. “Otherwise it wouldn’t have taken.” He seemed to have shifted in his seat uncomfortably as he said it.
Colson stared blankly for a few seconds realizing his fate. Thinking about what was supposed to be Andrew’s. He shifted uncomfortably as well. “Hey there boy! Didn’t think I’d get you to actually pick up. Thought it’d go to voicemail cause you must be on some hot date.” It was Lieutenant McMahon.
“Sort of…” Colson said as he watched Andrew’s face try not to laugh at the sudden interruption.
“Oh well shit! Sorry son. It’s just my wife see. Says she really wants to cook you dinner tomorrow night, and well Hell just thought you might wanna come over,” the Lieutenant said.
“Sure,” Colson replied. “But do you mind if I bring a plus one?”
There was silence on the phone. “A-A plus one?!” he was overly excited for some reason. “Betty, he wants to bring over someone with him. Is that alright?” the lieutenant was whispering loudly to his wife not realizing the conversation could be heard loud and clear. “YEAHAW!” the lieutenant shouted. Colson pulled the phone away from his ear but could still clearly hear the one side of the conversation. “Absolutely boy! I can’t wait to meet ‘em! Dinner’s round 6:30 and Betty’s gonna make some pie! Make sure you and you’re little toy bring some big stomachs cause we gon have more than enough!”
“Okay,” he let out a light laugh. “We’ll see you then.”
