【Tips】体について（About the body）
🕑 Added 2023-02-11 08:44:39 +0000 UTC
In this article, tips on the human body are described.
A supporter previously asked me about the tips for the 'hands extended forward pose', so I have also written about that.
*To be honest, the human body is so deep that I am still learning myself.
For this reason, this article is only an excerpt of the parts that I pay special attention to.
If you want to learn more, you should buy at least one book on art anatomy.
You can read about recommended books in this article.
The main contents are as follows
-About the pose and contrapposto
-Points of the arms (external and internal rotation, cross-sectional view, gender differences)
-Points of the legs
-Poses with strong perspective
-Hand structure, expression
About the pose and contrapposto.
In order to create a dynamic pose, it is important to draw the lines of the body in flowing curves and to consider the contrapposto.
Contrapposto is a pose in which the body is standing with the center of gravity over one leg.
To create a pose with contrapposto in mind, it is important to ensure that the balance is not symmetrical with respect to the axis and that the shoulder line is not parallel to the waistline.
It is easier to draw if you draw an S-curve in relation to the axis.
The larger the S-shaped curve, the stronger the sense of movement.
It is also important to be aware of the torso in order to draw dynamic poses.
The area from the bottom of the chest to the waist can be easily deformed and twists can be created as this is the area where the most movement can be achieved.
Conversely, the chest and waist areas are harder to deform and should be kept in shape as much as possible.
The female body is more curvaceous, so it is easier to express a sense of dynamism.
Some people may find it difficult to understand drawing flowing lines, as it is quite a sensual act.
This kind of sensory thing gradually becomes clear to you after you have done a number of drawings and have the sensation imprinted on your hand.
When I heard about dynamic lines a few years ago, I didn't understand them very well, but through copying human body drawings, I gradually came to understand them.
At first, it is recommended to use drawings rather than photographs as a reference.
External and internal rotation of the arm
When drawing the arms, even the way the muscles are attached should be taken into account to make them look more natural.
The shape will not be as symmetrical as a bowling pin.
Of particular importance is the arm's outward and inward rotation.
The orientation of the arms changes the shape of the bones and muscles.
When the hand is facing forwards, it is extra-rotational and when it is facing backward, it is internal-rotational.
Extra-rotational: radius and ulna parallel
In-rotation: radius and ulna crossed.
To be honest, I often get confused, so it's a good idea to have an art anatomy book ready when drawing it.
If one side is curved, the other should be a straight line for a natural look.
Consider the cross-sectional view of the arm
In drawing the arms, it is easier to understand the shape and perspective if you are aware of the cross-sectional view.
I used to be mistaken, but the cross-sectional view of the arm is not a regular circle.
It is easier to understand if you observe your own arm closely, but the shape of the arm is flatter than you think, so it should be closer to an oval when you consider the cross-sectional view.
On the other hand, the cross-sectional view of the upper arm above the elbow is closer to a regular circle.
This mistake may have been made because the arm is often represented as a cylinder when thinking about it graphically.
If you have difficulty imagining the shape of the body, it may be easier to understand if you touch your own body.
To make the shape of the arms easier to understand, you can also design a costume with wristbands or clothing with sleeves.
Gender differences in arms
One obvious difference is the difference in muscle mass, but there are others.
Women's arms are slightly bent, while men's arms are straight.
Women also have a greater range of movement when their arms are stretched out, with a slight bend to the opposite side.
Paying attention to these details may make it easier to differentiate between male and female subjects in your drawings.
・脚 -about legs
As with the arms, the shape of the muscles needs to be taken into account, as a symmetrical shape would make them look like sticks.
The bones are also not in a straight line to the pelvis and are slightly tilted.
It is also important to note that the leg bones connect to the end side of the pelvis.
The ankle area is particularly important, with the ankle being lower on the outside and higher on the inside.
Incidentally, it is this structure that causes the ankle to twist outwards when sprained.
About the knee
The knees are the most difficult to paint when colouring, but if you are aware of the skeleton, they are relatively easy to paint.
Women have a lot of fat, so the shape of the knee area will be more uneven.
Poses with strong perspective
The content relates to the question asked about 'how to draw poses with the hand extended to the screen'.
In this type of pose, it is easier to draw if you are conscious of perspective.
In addition to being conscious of perspective, there are other methods, such as making the depiction of the object in the foreground more detailed or making the lines thicker.
However, if the aim is to draw a cute picture, but the depiction is too realistic, the picture will look strange, so it is necessary to match it to the picture's design and atmosphere.
The key is to draw the objects in the front of the picture large and compress the objects in the back.
The degree of enlargement or compression depends on the composition and design of the picture.
The size of the picture is enlarged in the order ① > ② > ③ ↓
The same applies when drawing other parts of the body.
These powerful compositions are called false perspective and strong perspective, which is a type of perspective that is not possible in real life, so it may take some getting used to in order to describe them.
This is a composition that appears in many anime and manga, so it may be easier to understand if you copy them.
Hand structure
The middle finger and palm are roughly the same length.
The depiction of the nails and joints can be adapted to suit the design and character.
When drawing slender or bony hands, the muscles and joints on the back of the hand should be well drawn to give them a more realistic appearance.
When you move your finger, the coloured area also moves with it↓
When drawing complex hand poses, it is easier to draw if you are aware of this bulging area.
I personally think that when drawing hands, it is easiest to use your own hands as a reference.
However, if you copy the hand as it is, it will not match the pattern and will float, so you need to deform it by making the fingers thin and smooth.
Hand expression
When creating characterisation and situations, the shape of the hand needs to be carefully considered.
For example, if you want to depict a scene in which a person is holding something gently, if you draw the hand in a gooey shape as it is, the impression of strength will take precedence and the gentle and supple nature of the hand will be lost.
You can create a gentle atmosphere by loosening the bending of the fingers and lightly raising the little finger.
Also, if the fingers are arranged in parallel, it can cause monotony and stiffness.
So it is important to vary the arrangement of the fingers a little to create a change ↓
