As I want to make an acrylic stand of only the standing character later on, I thought of a composition that would work even without a background.
To make it look balanced, the silhouette of the character is designed to look like a rhombus.
The composition of the background is designed to include a surface element, a line element and a point element.
For more information on the three compositional elements, see 'About composition' in this article.
Because of the calm setting of an everyday indoor background rather than a dynamic zero-gravity space, I have used more vertical line elements, which give a sense of gravity.
2,線画・下塗り line drawing and base color
As this is a young girl, I tried to create a cute impression with a low body height.
The face has a slightly horizontal silhouette, with large eyes, and I tried not to make it too three-dimensional.
As for the body, I was conscious of the girl-like slender fingers and legs, and in the costume design I simplified the decoration to give a catchy impression.
Simplifying or complicating the costume detailing to match the character's isometric size and impression creates an overall sense of unity.
The character on the right is older and of a higher body height than the character on the left in this case, so the costume has been complicated accordingly. you can easily see the difference in the detailing of the frills ↓
The colour theme this time is crimson, but I differentiated the background from the characters by using crimson with reduced saturation and contrast, and by using blue-purple colours.
It is important to depict floor reflections and shadows of objects in order to create a sense of materiality and reality.
As you can see from the image below, without reflections and shadows, objects appear to be floating.
Finally, to make the character stand out more, a thin white was placed around the back of the character to create distance between the background and the character.
Air perspective was used to create depth on the screen.
Depth was created by thickening the white in the order ①<②<③. ↓
For ①, I used aerial perspective for the cloth and ribbons on the character's back and the right foot at the back. Too much white will create a sense of discomfort, so it is kept to a moderate level.
Nothing special, just the usual.
Move on to Photoshop, use the lens filter and tone curve to adjust the colours and finish.
Finally, an analog screen feel can be achieved by placing a noise image with a soft light layered effect.

Thank you! I'm not planning to do live streaming at the moment as it makes it difficult for me to concentrate on my work, sorry.
Incredible work as always! Definitely nailed the cute expression. Have you ever thought of maybe doing a live stream? I'd love to watch you work from start to finish
