It’s easy to forget that there is still a human somewhere inside Reaper. He tends to forget it himself. The nanites have taken over much of what makes him him. They move his body before he can even think that he needs to flex a muscle, leaving his head mostly blessedly empty of all the thoughts that had plagued him before the… adjustments had been made.
There is no use thinking about the past at this point. It’s over and done with. He can’t go back. Nobody can go back.
Talon sends him out on missions and he goes, no questions asked.
The only times that he is truly reminded that he is still very much human, is when his body acts up outside of the nanites’ influence.
A headache. A tummyache. Hunger. Thirst. Bodily functions that need to be addressed every now and then.
He’s been cramped inside his hideout for a two days now, living off of the few rations that they have sent him out with. He keeps staring through the slats of the little, rickety cupboard he’s in, waiting desperately for the Overwatch agents to finally come and make their move.
Nobody is coming yet, though, and his bladder… his bladder is so full and aching, that Reaper can feel himself starting to sweat with desperation.
Once again, his claw hits the button against his wrist, opening the communication channel to Talon. His voice trembling the slightest bit he requests for the fifth time: “Permission to step out and relieve myself.”
He waits for an answer, his attention solely on the feeling of his swollen bladder. It feels like if he has to wait a little bit longer it is going to burst. The ache radiating off of his abdomen is enough to make him nauseous. He shifts his weight a little from one foot to the other. He can feel the weight of his bladder move with it. He wants to step out so badly to finally take that piss, but the nanites won’t let him move from his position and compromise the mission.
Finally a bored sounding voice pipes up in his ear: “Have the targets arrived yet?”
Reaper closes his eyes and swallows thickly. “No.”
“Then stay where you are. Your orders have been clear, have they not?”
He does not answer and the line gets cut again. His bladder is full. So, so full. And the nanites don’t let him put a toe out of line. All he can do is stay where he is, miserable, sweating from pain as he waits for the targets to finally-
The rickety old door to the cabin opens. For a second, Reaper forgets his desperately full bladder and stares out through the crack as none other than the old soldier and the cowboy move into the view.
However, as Cassidy starts to crowd Soldier against the old table, grabbing him by the throat and ripping the mask off his face so he can aggressively kiss him – Reaper starts to realize that they have severely miscalculated the messages they have managed to intercept.
