Obviously the melody is a little bit different here than how it ended up, but before I properly comment on that, I just have to say I think it's funny that in both iterations of the melody, I don't really have enough time to breathe 😂 I truly do not write my songs to be sung by humans.
It's such a small difference in the melody. The cadence is the same, but there's just those couple small note differences, and honestly...did I pick the wrong version? I like this one so much! Maybe that's why it took me some time to come around to liking this song! 😂
Overall, I do think the melody in the finished song lends itself better both to the feeling of scrambling / overwhelm / running around in circles, as well as a more amped up sound, if that makes sense? I think the final version lends itself to sounding more intense. So for the sake of having the song sound like the message of the lyrics, I do think I made the right call. BUT DANG. I really like those tiny differences!
ALSO there's obviously some lyrical differences. I have zero qualms about having changed those few lyrics. 😂 When I'm in the process of writing, I often get to various points in the lyrics where I know what I want melodically, but I can't figure out a line or two. So I 100% just plop in a random line that kind of works and/or gets me to the rhyme I want so that I can move forward with the rest of the song. Thankfully, I do usually come back to those and find better fitting lyrics 😅👍
I love that in this case, the line to get me to the rhyme is just sassy and out of pocket 🙈 "Say that I should do better, well I'd like to see you try" is so unnecessarily aggressive and antagonistic, and for a song that's ultimately about bringing upon your own overwhelm, it's so out of left field. It does not make sense.
I will say, though, that I usually am someone who gets trapped in comparison (don't mind me referencing my own song that isn't even this one), trying to hold myself to the same standard as other people when...not only are we all dealing with different struggles as human beings, but we also have different strengths. And that's okay. But instead, I get stuck thinking I should be able to do more and I should be better at this, etc. So one could argue that I am talking to myself in that line...until the second half of it 😅

It’s cool to see the evolution of this song! :o But I do think the final version flows and carries the momentum better. ^^ I also getchu about comparison 🫂 those “shoulds” can be sooo vicous 🫂 sorry myrna has been so hard on yoi KT 😭
