I feel like the positivity here about the Pokémon releases is definitely a “Disney Vault” effect. I’m not even mad about it, I more find it completely laughable to charge $20 a piece for unaltered 25-year old roms of possibly THE most widely emulated games in history (FireRed is the basis for most popular fan hacks). For the record, I personally own these games on original carts and several official (GBA/DS) and unofficial (Analogue Pocket, etc) ways to play them. Despite that, I personally don’t at all mind buying or rebuying readily-available-by-other-means classic games, but they have to either be reasonably priced or bring something new to the table (new translations, collections, museum features, online play, etc). Compared with other classic rereleases, this falls far short of that. If/when they get to releasing the DS games, will they be $40?? If Pokémon fans had a modicum of standards or self control to not put up with this nonsense, they would be treated a lot better.
