Hazel Sprite Redesign v4: Redo!
🕑 Added 2024-06-17 00:45:20 +0000 UTCHello everyone!
I got all of your feedback from the newest Hazel sprite redesign and wanted to say: Sorry!
We went back to the kitchen and spent the time between redoing Hazel to make him more like you remember him and also giving him a new coat of paint. So here he is!
When I knew I had to change Hazel's sprite, I wanted Kokman to start fresh. I told him to act like it was his first time and ask if he could start from scratch and make Hazel look like the other sprites.
And he did that! I was super happy with Hazel's new look! It is technically better than the old one in every way. It's drawn better and functions better.
...but it isn't really Hazel, is it?
I took all the feedback I got and tried to figure out how to make a good new Hazel sprite. I didn't want to go back, but forward. I wanted to make Hazel 2.0, but I think what everyone wanted was 1.5. You wanted the Hazel you knew and loved, just better. So, that's what we did!
We kept the new body and face structure. I think it is way better. I don't think Hazel's old face structure is the best. But why did people not like the new one? I figured it was the expressions themselves. So, as an experiment, I added the old expressions to the new Sprite face.
It looked way better! That's when I knew we had changed Hazel's face too much. Don't get me wrong, I like the new face, but it isn't Hazel. Second, we wanted some of his old hair back, so we changed that too. And after a long while of tweaking and recreating, I think we have the perfect Hazel. A mix of old and new. A remaster rather than a remake.
We took all of his old expressions and either touched them up or redid them to look better than before. Many of the old expressions weren't consistent with iris size or eye position, so we did a lot of work to make them consistent and just like Hazel's.
And I think he fits wonderfully! The eyes feel like Hazel again and they match the lewd scenes.
Hazel now looks like he belongs. His new style does not seem out of place with the other characters, while he remains very much Hazel.
I am hopeful that everyone likes the new design we have come up with for Hazel! Kokman and I really tried to identify what was missing from the new design, which people loved so much in the old.
We hope to move on after this and get back to finishing v0.11.3, but obviously, if anyone has anything they'd like to say, please do not hesitate to let us know in the comments or on Discord.
We also plan on revamping Jeze's sprite soon, though we've learned some lessons while doing Hazel, so hopefully, Jeze will be relatively easier for us.
Thank you all so much for not only your support but your concerns as well! This is a collaboration. We are all trying to make Hazelnut Latte the best game it can be, so honestly, I do appreciate you all <3
So have a fantastic day and Stay Rad Out There!

I didn't think Hazel could be any hotter than he already was, but hot damn, with his new sprite he is drop dead gorgeous!
