Does anyone just feel bad for Skz? Like damned if they do and damned if they don't? I do understand both sides of the argument but I also just feel BAD. Imagine being invited as a WHOLE GROUP to one of the most exclusive, high-profile events for the first time after watching your teammates enjoy fashion ambassadorships and all those perks, just to have it destroyed by rotten photogs. First, yes, devices are normally one time purchases. Everyone I know has had their phones, TVS, laptops etc. for YEARS. For example, I’ve had my current phone since January 2021, and my current laptop since December 2020. a lot of people don’t have money to switch devices often. (also, i can’t remember the order you said things in so sorry if this reply seems out of order) Second, if you look at the replies under this one comment I left, you can see very many people do NOT agree with my side. Same situation on FANS (people on that app are insane). And yes, they are on the boycott list because of the MET Gala, but I’ve also seen lists that mention LMB, and if they don’t, someone in the comments will. To be frank, this song is destroying their reputation. Also, with the tags I’ve seen trending, none of them include SKZ and Zionism in the same tag… Not sure what you’ve been seeing, but for me that has not been the case. JYPE and Zionism, sure, but not SKZ. Also, they would’ve been on the list anyways, like you said, because of the MET Gala. It does not matter what tags we are trending or what we’re upset about in our fandom because if someone isn’t on the K-pop side of social media, they will never see that. Everyone SKZ has collabed with has mentioned their collab at LEAST once, even IF they’re already big artists (Tiger JK, Lil Durk, etc.). Also, ChP is NOT a big artist anymore. Literally nobody in the west actually likes him nor listens to him. Seriously. If you say you listen to ChP you get made fun of. Even without that, it shouldn’t be all about the attention and money? If he respected SKZ, he would post at least something about it. Even the producer who EVERYONE hates posted a picture with them (unfortunately). I wouldn’t know about the insta story because after the collab dropped I blocked him. Even then, the collab had been announced for weeks at that point and he had a lot of time to post something. We may have a general idea of how payments might go, but to claim CHP/Goldstein will get "almost all" the profits is incorrect and has no basis or proof. He could've just sold the song with a set pay (he still needs to be credited), he could have royalties, or both. Usually bigger payments go the main artists and songwriters which are mainly SKZ. We simply do not know for you to state it so matter of factly. I'm not defending CHP, I don't care about the guy, but he DID promote the song on Instragram (one of his biggest platforms he rarely uses Twitter). Also, why the hell would he promote it? It is SKZ's song not his #1, and #2 the fandom hasn't welcomed him at ALL. Since the announcement he has gotten nothing but hate (I'm not saying is not deserved, I'm saying that he knew he was in hot water, getting involved with the fandom would only cause more issues). this is my opinion and everyone is free to make up their own mind. but morally, i cannot find it within myself to sit in the comfort of my own home and enjoy this song while it funnels money into the pocket of someone who supports and agrees with the horrifying atrocities that are happening in palestine. i get feeling like “you” (speaking generally) as an individual boycotting this song won’t make an impact so why should you have to miss out. i also get wanting to support the kids. but they do have other songs and other collabs that hasn’t got NEARLY as much attention as this one that we could be putting our energy into. this boycott is a game of morality, if you don’t see how supporting this song supports charlie and how that impacts something MUCH bigger than a singular song, than that’s up to you. i know some people don’t see worldly conflicts and struggles that don’t directly affect them as “their problem” but im not like that. i am unable to turn a blind eye. i also wanted to talk about being “hypocritical” because we are probably using items that come from problematic places that we don’t even know about. while yes, this is 100% true, i also disagree with this sentiment. whenever these problematic companies become “exposed”, we see people immediately band together against them. but how do people come to find this information? by talking about it. by making posts and constantly speaking about it and spreading the information to those who may be unaware. if i know that a brand is participating in harmful actions, i do my best to avoid them. but im also only human. it is impossible to know what goes on or who is behind the scenes of absolutely everything. but, when the opportunity arises to bring awareness and do my part, you bet i’ll do everything i can. boycotting is not only to stop funds going to these companies, it’s to bring awareness. by calling out companies and celebrities, you are actively bringing attention to these matters. I get you and I agree with most of what you said. I'm going to stream the song cuz I don't think this is the right one to boycott, specially after the met gala (and I agree that music can be political specially in cases like his). I think the main point of boycotting this song is that we know that everyday items we use involve shitty people and our money goes to shitty companies/places. We know that. But it’s not realistic to not have a cell phone or a printer, or whatever it may be. However, with something like music, we get to make that choice. I’m not trying to be rude to Nigel or anyone else who’s streaming the song. I’m just a little bit tired of this “Oh yeah? Well why are you using XYZ then?” because it diminishes the whole reason for boycotts in the first place. I know some people use it as a gotcha or to seem better than others but that’s not what I’m talking about here. I’m talking about the majority of people boycotting the single who want to use this choice to listen or not to do what they think is right. Before anyone twists my words, I am not saying YOU are wrong for whatever you decision is. I’m merely explaining the reasoning for this, and for boycotts in the first place. It’s impossible to never participate in something where money goes to bad people. No ethical consumption under capitalism and all that … that doesn’t mean never buy anything, because that’s not realistic because we are apart of a capitalist system which we cannot escape. It just means to be aware. Again, do not twist my words, do not reply with “omg stop making it political!”, because music has always been political. And this isn’t even “political” for most people, it’s just their morals. Everybody has different morals and I understand that. So I’m not trying to tell Nigel or anyone else how to live their life. I’m just responding to what he said in the beginning of the video since I was curious if he addressed it again.
