I like that you bought up how comfortable Hongjoong was from the beginning, because I think that's part of the reason that a rapper like Hongjoong can go on a show like this at all. He's confident in not only what he can show but also his own artistry and point of view. Because he's just cool, and he comes to what he does with a variety of different influences that allow him to have his own vibe entirely because of all the inspirations he draws on (i.e., being a rapper that loves 70's rockstars means that he's not falling into trend chasing traps or trying to be like anyone else). There's a series on youtube called Beyond ASF (which features Ateez and their labelmate Maddox) which shows off more of him and the covers he's done!

So, the guy that stole his laptop I believe was somebody they met at the dance studio they were training at. Hongjoong is an artsy and creative person at heart, I dont think he's that interested in singing a song perfectly, to me it's always seemed like he sings to feel the song and immerse himself into the sound of it. He's not pretending to be a Jongho nor does he want to be, he just sings because he likes music – every layer of it. You should watch his segment on IM ON THE BEAT, it's the rapper's version of a Lee Mujin service and it's so so so good and he gets to talk more about his rapper side (obviously.)

Hongjoong is heavily involved in the production and writing of Ateez songs! He doesn’t do it by himself though. KQ entertainment has an in house producing team that all work together on all Ateez and Xikers songs. Xikers is KQs rookie group and Hongjoong helps make a lot of their songs too! One of Hongjoongs very close friends Maddox is a solo artist at KQ and he has production credits on a ton of Ateez songs and almost all Xikers songs. He also does all the English narration of their outros and intros. KQ is very small but everyone there is like a family, they all work on each others music and help each other!

Bowie is Bowie, is a vibe itself and is not the kind of artist we hear a lot nowadays but the guy has tons of amazing music and is part of the pop history. You should check some. That said Starman is not on my fave list, Hong Joong did really well tho. He also nailed the other songs and loved his Billie Jean. He has a very particular voice and tone, he does have a great range and clearly has a good control of it. He is not main vocal material but he is pretty good and that is fine. I would say depending on the song he shines a lot, he is very compatible with G dragon songs, his tone remind me of him a lot. I think his best as a singer is his particular tone and the fact he is very well trained with it so he can be confident about it. There are plenty of great singers that are great for having a very unique voice, I think that is the case for him and also Mingi, both shine being very different from what we usually hear, they both can sing well.
