“Don’t flatter yourself,” she scoffed. “I’m not doing this for you, Potter. Not good will come from following that madman, and I’m sure as hell not going to sit back and hope for the best. Now that I know the truth, I’m going to stay right here and make sure you win. You’re stuck with me. Deal with it.” No good will

The shield spells could act as a non-Newtonian fluid for physical objects sort of like Goa'uld personal shields did on SG-1 blocking bullets but not a thrown knife specifically because of the higher speed of the bullets Not saying this is what they do but just one option the author could use if they don't want gun's to be all that useful against wizzards

I'm surprised that such basic comments had so much traction. A few points: * No, wizards are not bullet proof (canonically not really mentioned/relevant). A shield can barely block a handful of spells, if that. I'd love to see the rhetoric behind blocking multiple pieces of steel traveling at significant portions of the speed of sound when getting stabbed to death is still a thing. Author-fiat is definitely a thing, but when used to defend a retarded decision kind of loses its weight. * Glocks were an example. Get Harry a basket of holy hand grenades. Teach him how to make IEDs. Get the kid a bazooka. The idea that magic instead of using your brain is the solution to your problems is retarded and juvenile (and why Hermione is so well liked - because she isn't retarded). I thought this fic was geared towards adults? * If you aren't capable of committing violence against people who've harmed you or your loved ones, can you even be called a human being? Canon Harry killed a magic dinosaur with a fucking sword before being railroaded into being a little bitch because Rowling clearly has no idea how people work. What's the point of even writing if all you're going to do is repeat canons mistakes?

lol not a bad breaking point "oh I am almost kicked out of magical world for defending myself, oh now I have to run a whole country for 30 days and I haven't even graduated, oh hey lets try and fix everything and round up death eaters to take the fight to the guy who wants to kill me and clean up corruption that could kill me too, oh AND I am destined to basically highlander with someone on par with a magical nuke and the guy I trusted implicitly lied to me and didn't prepare me to at least survive a little longer in the death match?" Feel you on the whole needing people etc. very true. This feels very much a more grounded down to earth stakes run. Almost mcguffin free take on the dark lord route. A road not traveled as often as it could in published or fanfic. defiantly not everyone's cup of tea in that aspect but I think part of that is slightly askew from most of PQs catalogue but damn I like it. Probably some who get slightly off put by it will like it even better reading it from start to finish when it is completed...which I oddly hope is many many chapters away

I agree, it's one of the things that's never properly addressed in the lore. The Statue of Secrecy came about in 1689, well after firearms were in common use martially, so there had to be instances where armed muggles clashed with wizenfolk. One of the best world-building details from fan fiction that I read was that the bastardization abracadabra started as a taunt by muggles who could use firearms to kill at far greater range than the Killing Curse, and I find it very plausible. I understand, practically, that it's never addressed in canon because it started as a fairy tale and because it invalidates much of the power dynamic of the novels, but it's a glaring hole in the lore.

Uhhh because even as vile as Snape is a reaction immediately being "I need to murder that guy" is not actually a sane basic human emotion. Not really. Extreme anger. Hatred. Sure. Straight murder? Harry doesn't even know his parents. That wouldn't fit. He has never shown to be capable of that level of hatred anyway. He can't even cast the torture curse when Bellatrix got Sirius killed.

Second point as some one with ptsd. Harry is a poster child for it. His reactions would not be normal. His training durseley then Dumbledore would make him think. Acting angry or lashing out means getting hurt. Then he would plan how to do it. His talk he just had tells him that he can't kill snape till voldemort is dead. So in my mind the decision tree would be off riddle then contain kill Dumbledore then I can end snape. Plus he is in charge of the ministry have them start an investigation in to why there is not enough potion newts for the aurors and healers with that set up a meeting with the potion guild or whoever gives potion masteries. Take away his one claim to fame. Then make him a brewing slave under goblin control under a contract. So no one can free him or abuse him. Then visit him with the kids like a monkey in a zoo.

I think people always forget this is England in the 90s. Where is he going to get a gun and training. Though as as a vet where are all the squib and half blood service men and women out for revenge. One pissed off sniper with a rifle with windage range and sound suppression charms and it's a massacre. How to hide it Hermione 's bag as an example. I'm not a sniper so I don't know the ins and outs but urban snipers are a bitch apparation and portkeys make it worse. I believe before the war on terror. Or as I call it why Skywalker was right sand I hate sand. It was roughly a mile so during harry 's war the mountains would provide a kill zone around the castle.

And there goes my interest in this story. Why is the "Snape literally killed my parents" plot always taken like all he did was cut you off in traffic? Kill the mother fucker. It's literally the only sane reaction. I have absolutely no idea how authors continue to derail such a basic human emotion. Who gives a shit about magic? Grab a Glock. Why do these plots always come down to "I must learn 200 years of voodoo" instead of the MC using their brain?

Erinnyes

What an absolute master class with making Dumbledore into the character JK Rowling wanted him to be but couldn't manage. I still disagree with many of his decisions, but you did an excellent job making a case for how a rational human could plausibly get there. I could go either way pretty easily on the depiction of Harry. He seems more emotionally unbalanced in this scene than the fic has depicted him so far, but on the other hand everyone has a breaking point and Harry is still fundamentally a teenager who's been keeping it together far more than he has any right to for a while. Very mixed feelings on him in this one, but I don't think anything is objectively wrong. That aside, your dialog is beautiful, the emotions are real, and I absolutely love the support team around Harry and how they're working together. Just truly excellent work in all regards there and a particular nod to your depiction of Dumbledore.

Stonebrow

nice. it's refreshing to see a couple have a sexual encounter for the first time and not have it be penetrative.

Professor Quill

Chapter? or the whole story?

Hakai

Honestly, I think this is the first time I've not liked one of your stories, lol. This Harry just just too close to canon for me, and I can't stand canon Harry.
