Watching your father clear his mind, all over the ceiling, could do that to you. I spent the bulk of my formative years in the church, and it was the way myself and others were treated that led me to believe that there were no such thing as a god. I’ve experienced some pretty awful things at the hands of those who spoke on behalf of the Protestant god. Kinda soured my feelings on any other gods. I burn through non-conscious sedation, but I don't tell the doctors. I've woken up during every surgery I've had as an adult, so I can watch what's going on via any reflective surface within my field of view. The best was the face shield worn by one surgeon. He caught me staring at his face, and I grinned at him as he calmly told the anesthesiologist, "Your patient is awake".
