Melon actually takes blood and organs off the Black Market/Silk Road and donates them to hospitals and blood banks. At first the staff found this incredibly unnerving, but they're used to it by now.
Andrew L Butula
Bubbles and Roko just accidentally caught the Northampton Ripper.
Duncan
Circuitously?
PsychOut
I could see a way she considers herself a blood donor...show up at the place and convince someone who wasn't planning on donating that day to do it. Then Melon is responsible for the donation, in a sense.
Ursus Ridens
Not faulty. Just, um, circuitically different.
Joseph Bonnar
You're a better person than am I. I just come here to read about what horrors Pintsize did last. :)
Joseph Bonnar
My eardrums ruptured just thinking about that, William.
Matthew DeVries
I could use a heart -- a human heart. I need to pump a lot of blood out of my basement --Bender B. Rodriguez
Joseph Bonnar
Bubbles expression in the last panel says it all. Beautiful, Jeph.
William Cole
She sings "Twinkle, twinkle, little star" to the donors.
Miyaa
You need better parasocial groups.
Miyaa
To be fair, I have seen V8 offered to help donors recover from their donation. I’m sure they’d appreciate Melon.
Miyaa
@Sean Kinlin • Do not let Fart Captor try to resuscitate Melon using mouth to mouth.
Miyaa
I can imagine Melon’s nose glow and buzz as the medical student failed to get her 3D printer humor bone out AGAIN.
Populuxe
I love the jokes, but it’s the emotions in panel three that have kept me a patron for so many years.
Michael Steamweed
An AI version of the practice mannequins they use in medical classes... yeah, I could see that being a paying gig.
Michael Steamweed
Know how the modern LLMs have hallucination problems? Yeah, that's the Lemon, Lomen, Melon, and Nolem series.
Michael Steamweed
Why not both?
Bill Silvia
You can sign up with the ARC app
CaseyAEC
It would extra funny to me, and charming, if the answer to this weird puzzle was wholesome. When she said she needed to be there extra early, I thought, maybe she volunteers at a blood drive, maybe as a blood cheerleader of sorts.
BookBeard
My new headcanon is that Melon went to a children's Halloween party several years ago and they had "blood" made from tomato juice. Someone explained it to her, she misunderstood, and she's been bringing a 12-pack of V8 to the blood bank once a week ever since.
Miyaa
I would go unique.
ValdVin
In any other parasocial group I'd be concerned about how many comments are joking (sic) about donating someone else's blood or organs. Not sure if that says more about me or the company I keep.
Mark
"[Melon's body] is a particularly strange model, and it seems to attract similarly strange inhabitants". https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=3566
Holly Nelson
Hmm. One green eye, one pink eye… maybe she keeps odd eyes in a misunderstood attempt to improve her 3D vision?
Philip Masters
Beat me to it.
enchantedsleeper
She probably arrives early to ask if anyone can give her some blood to donate. The staff are used to this by now.
enchantedsleeper
Roko of course works there, although she's yet to convince Melon of that fact. Melon thinks this is Roko's identical twin.
enchantedsleeper
I saw this one first xD
enchantedsleeper
It looks the same to me, but I wouldn't put it past Melon to see Roko's unbrushed hair and decide it's an amazing style statement she should copy.
enchantedsleeper
Melon is the best ♥️
enchantedsleeper
As for non-chassis body parts, those can be manufactured (like joint replacements can for humans) but there probably are some that get donated/reclaimed from bodies too badly damaged to use, like the half chassis we once saw in Union Robotics whose owner lost a "very ill-advised" bet.
enchantedsleeper
@Ursus Those are very valid worldbuilding questions to be asking! We do know that old chassis get donated because Winslow mentioned his old body was intended to be going to charity (that was when Pintsize installed the "ass zombie" app on it xD), which makes sense considering how much they cost new. However, they probably don't get top-of-the-line (or even middle-of-the-line) fully humanoid models donated a lot, because May wasn't able to get hold of anything better than the junk she was housed in for way too long. Which makes me wonder if there's a thriving second-hand market for bodies. There must be, if old humanoid bodies aren't being donated - I mean, what happened to Momo's old one when she became Tall Momo? Enquiring minds need to know! But it seems reasonable that people would want to recoup some of the costs of the new body because again, they're expensive. Then again, you've also got Pintsize buying his chassis from Internet Jerry - maybe THAT's where all the second-hand ones go xD
enchantedsleeper
To be fair, you can't usually tell from the name, unless it's something like Moray X-21 xD
Salodni Ikkis
It doesn't necessarily have to be her blood.... or organs
enchantedsleeper
Personality xD
Morgana Alexis Ravenwood
Part of me is so curious to figure out why Melon is like this (magnets stuck inside her chassis? Errant lines of code? Corrupted files? Faulty hardware?), but the other part recognizes the joy in the mystery and how her just being "like that" is both hilarious and endlessly endearing.
Dean Reilly
I just want to give them both a comb.
Spartan Windrider
Might be an electric organ instead of a pipe organ. If it's a Hammond, then it's a significant donation! Those things are sought after!
Spartan Windrider
She didn't used to be, if I'm remembering correctly. Her pink eye is left over from her face mishap.
Leak
Probably traded an eye for an eye at the organ donors...
BookBeard
As long as the "AI drive" (essentially processor, memory and storage bundled together) remains intact, they can seemingly survive virtually any other damage and be safely (if not always comfortably) uploaded to a new chassis. https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=3008 https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=3907
Shane Wegner
I want to know who is signing up robots for these.
Bagge
...whose blood? ....whose organs?
Carl Fink
How did I just now notice that Melon is heterochromatic?
Czarzhan
Roko's original body suffered catastrophic crush damage, but her brain had a standard reinforced casing that allowed it to survive even though her body didn't. AI brains apparently are nonvolatile enough to be able to survive for at least a time without any external support.
BobC
Still is!
Ursus Ridens
It seems that they do have coolant.
Ursus Ridens
It sounds as if she already _was_ the first successful AI brain donor.
Ursus Ridens
I dunno -- does she have any redundant subsystems so that she could donate one? It wouldn't be normal engineering in our world, but -- here AIs are people, so you wouldn't want them to expire from a single critical subsystem failure, the way us meat-people often do. But would they expire at all, or just sort of power down? (Here is where I tell myself, "Dude, you're overthinking this. It's a webcomic.")
William Cole
Nah, Union Robotics fixed up her dermal sealant so they don't get in anymore.
Jathby Dredas
Give a kidney, you're a Hero. Give four kidneys, you're a "Person of Interest."
SpookyPenguin
3rd frame is the HALP MELON ATTACK 1000 yard stare
Miyaa
I thought Hannelore is more like Gizmo Duck’s alter ego. You know you toss coins on the ground and she could tell you which ones are loonies and which are toonies. Also has an accounting degree. Is a judge for the 2025 Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet World Championship.
BookBeard
14 kidneys would be fine, but 15? No chance.
Sean Kinlin
Maybe she volunteers as an "organ donor" for surgeons to practice on? Kind of like volunteering as a CPR subject, only more intense.
Sean Kinlin
@Captain Button: Melon Just Wants to Have Fun
Sean Kinlin
Vampire robots sound like something that would appear in Dr. McNinja.
Nicolas Demers
Well that's just not going to work! Her blood and organs will be full of bugs
Hawkeye
Fuckin’ Melon, man. Can’t believe how hard I laughed at this one.
Maurice Kessler
See, this is why I'm glad I don't remember everything from my college years.
Gary Walker
It’s a lowery from the 80s. She put it on Craigslist
Amelia Lewis
They'll give her an electronic cookie, to track her donations.
Andrew Mitchell
Tbh I am now feeling grateful that none of my friends or family are like Melon... I could NOT cope.
Steve Prowse
You do realise she could be 3d printing blood & organs in her torso? She has to get there early for the nacre solution to be refreshed
Steve Prowse
Oh this is priceless. Your holiday helped, even if they were written last year
BookBeard
This is why Melon is so good at making Roko feel better, she can transition seamlessly from being wholesome and comforting to being weird and distracting. My favorite example of this remarkable talent: https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=3918
Daryl Sawyer
It just occurred to me that Hannelore is basically The Count.
Daryl Sawyer
It hurts so good.
LH
her neighbours or the needy's neighbours?
Likeablejerk
The additional scrutiny is the reason she needs to get there so early. Every time she shows up to donate, it leads to many hours of questioning by concerned authorities.
Captain Button
She's So Unusual
Captain Button
Monty Python's Flying Circus had a sketch about that back in the day.
Cody Renton
Is it just me, or has Melon's hair gotten shaggier?
Tudza
Blood donor? You're not even a blood owner. ( this is a joke from an old How to Be A Ventriloquist record )
Darren Franzen
Bubbles is all of us right now…staring blankly ahead with an expression that lies at the Venn diagram intersection of confusion, disbelief and resignation…
Yelling Bird
I donate blood and organs all the time. Not MY blood and organs, but still.
Shawn K. Younkin
She used to have pink earcups for ears wayyyyy back when.
Thisguy
Glad someone else thinks the way I do.
Bridgette Ryan
Honestly I see her just rocking up with a piece of paper that says blood and giving it to them... Then waiting for the cookie that she can't actually eat.
Commodore_Perry
That conversation warrants additional scrutiny of Melon. Just to make sure...
BookBeard

Miyaa
Also doubles as WiFi receiver, as Faye & Bubbles can attest.
Miyaa
Melon should never meet Emmett because they would be too successful in whatever kind of shenanigans they would do.
FreeReedz
I just got the significance (?) of her colors…watermelon. Green outside and pink inside ? 🤦🏼♂️
Graydon Armstrong
I have concerns. Because she's gonna come back like she was successful. And I don't think we want to know how.
BobC
Melon is the first successful AI brain donor!
Simpin4Holo
No, Melon, you can't just show up with 15 kidneys and expect to not be questioned.
Chris
Reminds me of the funny meme. I was going to donate blood today but they started asking way too many personal questions like, “Whose blood is this?!" and “Where did you get it?!"
Tamara Macadam
god shes peculiar
Andrew
Gah didn’t see Bill’s earlier comment…
Kristina
Is Melon....stealing organs and blood from people????????????? Genuine question.
lilibat
Whose blood is she going to donate? Some guys.
Andrew
It’s a church organ, why so much drama?
Andrea Andrew
I can’t tell if this will lead to them finding Yay, or if Melon’s being uh…Melon. Then again, maybe androids do have something like blood.
Jon
Melon is living whiplash and i love it
FreeReedz
Like a cat’s tail.
BookBeard
Melon has an extensive collection of antique keyboard instruments and is on her way to donate one of her finest 18th century reed organs to the Northampton Museum of Music. Obviously.
ValdVin
Have we seen Melon's ahoge hair before?
Andrew
I vant to drain your coolant!
Shawn K. Younkin
This is why I love Melon!
Andrew
We did wonder who bought blood packs from CoD…
Xionwalker
Melon has a handy mood indicator on their scalp!
Michael Boettger
(Evil Melon prowls the street in search of prey)
Bill Silvia
Melon is donating her pipe organ to the needy? Well, I guess that will make the neighbors happy.
Not that Patrick Foltz
Melon is back in her new skin!
ValdVin
Roko, stop Melon before she donates a spare (sic) part of her chassis to the AI rights org.
Doc Gumby
Melon breaks brains. Human or AI, no matter, it's her calling.
Miyaa
Are there… vampire robots in QC?
Valerie Kaplan
Melon is EXTREMELY confused but she got the spirit.
dizzy ditzy
look, it's fine. the blood and organs belong to her, so she can do with them what she likes. no more questions please
Alacrity Fitzhugh
I've missed Melon. (and Lemon, for that matter!)
Peter McDevitt
Melon doesn't seem very organ-ized.
Michael
Man she has a busy schedule
Colin McBride
She's actually going to goodwill.
JMK
My love of Melon knows no bounds.
