I wonder how many people are taking this month to re-read the strip from beginning to real time? It would be interesting to know how the traffic patterns have changed this month. I don't think the pistols were quite as planted as Malcom McLaren would like to assert, but they were definitely pumped up in the media to try and suck some of the air out of a nascent movement that actually had something to say and some serious bite by filling the air with the more err- twee and superfluous stuff

A lot of punk bands of that era were. The Sex Pistols just crumbled early. The Clash, by contrast, managed to leverage their success into some increasingly internationally-inspired experimental punk music before crumbling!

Sex Pistols are about as mid as you get. They were a fashion statement masquerading as a band. That said, I agree that the queen was not, nor ever was, a "human bean". On that account I do concur.
