Addendum: Hannelore's side quest/journey was something that probably seemed logical for her character in the moment, but it was also a way for her to speedrun some character development. Rereading the comic archives, it strikes me how shy, timid and anxious she often is. She's still awesome but a far cry from the mature and adjusted Hanners we now know (who still has her neuroses but has many coping mechanisms for them). So it's really important for her growth.

I think her orientation is straight, but her psychological issues are making her Ace. Her early presentation with the firemen was strongly hetero, but her issues with touch and her germophobia make it highly unlikely that she "hooks up" with any of the organic members of the cast. The other problem is the lack of male-presenting AIs in the cast. Jeph may have to introduce a new AI just so Hanners gets a love interest.
