1. Are you against sampling, auto-tune, etc.? 2. From what I can tell, this Scaper plugin does not look like Generative AI at all (in the sense of using mass input training). I don't see anything on the website about it using sources other than the sounds you input yourself, or about it being any form of AI, etc. It is simply generative in the older sense like what Eno did with Spore. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generative_music

It is a lot of things, all bad. It is ALREADY replacing artists allowing the people who would otherwise hire them to press a button instead further depressing wages in a field which is already poverty stricken. It is also wholesale theft. The programs are trained on huge masses of artists' creations for which the creator gets no royalties, has no control, and has no say over whether and how her/his work is used. And as more of the scrapeable content is AI generated it will eat itself, shit itself out, eat the shit and continue the process.

And I can definitely see that POV as well. It’s all new and I’ll admit that I am trying to work my own way through this as well. I don’t know that there is a “right” answer as much as a “right for me in the circumstances ( or not), at least speaking for myself. Thanks for replying!

I’m not sure, Scott. I’m one who would stand to benefit a great deal, since I’m a writer and not an artist in an industry where you need both. But it seems more like it enhances the ability of creative individuals to use SOMEONE ELSE’s creativity in new ways, whether they want to participate or not. Until or unless I can find a way to bridge that ethical gap by giving back to those creators, too, I’ll buy and use commercial stock art, or do what I can with my own limited illustrative talents.

I like this quite a bit. I know that some decry generative software as removing creativity from the individual and putting it in the hands of the software, but I think that is an imbalanced view at this point. I certainly think that it enhances the ability of creative individuals to use their creativity in new ways.
