Probably more akin to how a human being sweats (and, like humans, she would need to replenish more than just plain water). A cold beverage "sweating" has no effect whatsoever on the amount of liquid in the beverage. But she also occasionally springs a leak, so there's some loss there, too.

Keep in mind that 2 comics ago, she said she needed the salt to "top off [her] fluids before bedtime". So I think that it's less directly converting salt into energy, and just that all of her electrical processes run through her fluids; she salted up to make sure they conduct properly. My guess is her body loses goop throughout the day naturally (similar to how a cold beverage "sweats") so she fills it up before bed to make sure she's not deflated in the morning.
