2024 Patron Shout-Out Changes: Annual Subscriptions and more!

It's almost time for the Season 6 Premiere (February 7th) and after discussing it between ourselves, Nat and I are implementing some positive changes to the way Patron shout-outs happen! If you have questions def comment on this post and I'll answer them to the best of my ability!
FIRST CHANGE - If you switch your Patreon subscription from a monthly subscription to an annual subscription, YOU WILL BE SHOUTING YOURSELF OUT. How does this work, you ask? Head over to the subscription tab on our Patreon page and select "annual" for either Tier 1 or Tier 2. Confirm the change in your subscription from monthly to annual. You will receive a discount AND you will be allowed to record yourself saying your own name! You will record your name and drop the file into a folder on our Google Drive (located at this link: https://bit.ly/3UlL5mM). If you have already changed your subscription status to annual, please click the link to the folder now and drop a soundbite of yourself saying your name. EVERYONE WHO SIGNS UP FOR AN ANNUAL SUB IN JANUARY PLEASE DROP YOUR SOUNDBYTE INTO THE LINK ASAP. RULES - you can use your first name and last initial or a nickname. Please do not use your full government name as we do not want to be responsible for any doxing or embarrassment that may come from people you know irl discovering you listen to this nightmare of a show. If you use a nickname we just ask that it obviously doesn't contain any hate speech (I know none of you will do this, but I'm covering all the bases just in case a hater hates us so much that they sign up for an annual subscription to monitor us - FBI I'm looking at you. Also, obv, if you record yourself using hate speech we will ban you from the Patreon for obvious reasons). You can record yourself with an external microphone on your computer or by using a voice recording app on your phone. Please only submit .mp3 or .wav files into the folder. If you do NOT want to shout yourself out but still want to take advantage of the discounted annual subscription, no problem! You are definitely allowed to do that and we will shout you out as normal in our own voices. To avoid confusion during the editing process, you will only be allowed to switch your shout-out name to something else each time your annual subscription renews (once annually). If you have a special circumstance with your name during the year (a name change) please reach out to me or Nat privately and I'll see what I can do to drop in a new soundbyte before the next shout-out cycle. PLEASE BE WARNED THAT THE ANNUAL DISCOUNT IS ONLY IN EFFECT BETWEEN THE SEASON FINALE AND THE SEASON PREMIERE SO IF YOU WANT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT PLEASE DO IT BEFORE FEB 7. The option of signing up for an annual subscription at full price will be taken away at the end of February, leaving only monthly options remaining. Monthly donors will be shouted out as usual in our own voices, just like last year.
SECOND CHANGE - Since we take off January each season, we decided that each month's episodes will feature shoutouts from the previous month to make sure nobody is missing their shoutout. Example: February episodes will shoutout January donors, March episodes will shout out February donors, etc. etc. December episodes will shout out donors who donate between 11/1 and 12/15, with new donors who sign up after 12/15 being shouted out with the January donors in February. We think this will be a really great change as it makes it way less likely that someone's shout-out will be accidentally missed. Of course we are still human so 100000% reach out to us this season if you don't hear your name during a month where you know you donated the month preceding.
THIRD CHANGE - We are toying with the idea of placing shout-outs at the end of each episode instead of in the intro. What would you guys think about that? As all haunties know, we frequently battle with one star reviews over long intros, and the donor shoutouts usually last around 4 minutes each intro. We've reached out to a lot of our friends in podcasting and new connections we've made this year to ask what they do for their shows. Most of them do not do shoutouts, but the ones that do place them at the end to avoid the haters giving one star for long intros. We are thinking of maybe trying this out in February and seeing how it goes? We could either put them after the outro song or before the theories section of each episode since that's towards the end. Let us know your thoughts!

I think shoutouts at the end of the episode would be good for the show. Anyone who hasn't listened before, who has a limited attention span might exit the show during the shoutouts.

Yeah chuck em in at the end like movie credits... Maybe have a tiny clip of some random whatever/soundbite of one of your famous quotes at the end like waiting after an MCU movie. The LGHU! let's face it, much better, and the real haunties will stay to the bitter end regardless. Kinda like watching two minutes of empty video just in case... You never know... Who's to say!

I think shout outs in the 'outro' is the best way to make everyone happy. New listeners don't have to wade through names they dgaf about and we haunties know to listen through the end. Win/win! ❤️

Awesome stuff! As for where to put shout-outs... my vote is to stick with the current method, because you guys already go above and beyond by putting the story's beginning timestamp in the show notes, and there's no easier bypass for those who prefer to skip. Maybe others feel differently, though... Who's to say??

I love the idea of moving shout outs to the end of the show! Another podcast I like that covers some heavy subjects (true crime) does it at the end to add some levity as one host is constantly fighting a losing battle with reading his own handwriting

I think putting the shoutouts at the end of the episode is a good idea. It’ll keep the intros shorter, and leave room for growth in case you want to increase the number of people getting shoutouts per episode.
