Yes, there have been a lot of rumblings that the rise in peanut allergies is partially due to parents not letting their toddlers play in the dirt. I thing this was also the solution in Martin Cadin's potboiler novel FOUR CAME BACK.

Agreed. Classic "the details are left as an exercise for the reader", translation "I, the author, have no idea how to do it..." I do note that the Wikipedia entry for CHON quickly notes the actual abbreviation is "CHNOPS"

I love how David Gerrold makes growing protein in space a simple task. You just need CHON! Only, shouldn't there be a "P" in there someplace? And where do you get the collagen mesh from? Etc, etc.

Yes, using ultrasonic sound waves to clean the dirt off of your skin sounds safe to me! Of course some of that "dirt" is flaked skin cells that's identical to living cells... and what of the beneficial microflora that lives on your skin? We've only just now have come to realize that "sanitizing" you skin can be bad for your health. But as Dr. Leavitt said: “When you think about it, we’ve faced up to quite a planning problem here. How to disinfect the human body - one of the dirtiest things in the universe - without killing the person at the same time. Interesting.”
