There used to be the whole Datsot fleet between Gruccud and the front line. The small size of the Gruccud force was therefore reasonable. As for the latest map (chapter 51) - looking at it, it might be tough for the Puppers to hold Gruccud. Any Pupper force close enough to Gruccud to contribute to its defense would automatically be too far away to defend Stoers, and vice versa. Meanwhile, the Bunnies have the advantage of interior lines - a Bunny force at e.g. Goscoers could threaten both Stoers and Gruccud. They could attack Gruccud, attract the Pupper reserves, then withdrawal and attack Stoers knowing that the Puppers wouldn't be able to relocate to the reseveres to Stoers. That is, of course, based on the assumption that the map is of 2D space. Which, uh, it isn't. What with the whole "space being 3D" thing. Also, it's assuming that the Terrans don't have really good surveillance assets that would probably be able to predict such a move. Which, uh, they very likely have.

Until now, that would have been enough. And I assume the Znosian empire is huge and it takes a while to spontaneously send more fleets.

They've never done a day of work in their life, and they never will.

MCM-148 is doing what they love and that's shooting mines.

Valdis Trautmanis

Alright, that makes sense. But only 4 destroyer squadrons guarding it with no backup further up... The Bun navy must be really spread thin

There happens to be a map update with Chapter 57, but the important thing is: Gruccud is essentially the Bun staging point of the entire "northern" axis of the war. As for the planet, it's got a habitable resort/agricultural planet. The significance isn't so much the planet itself (though any habitable planet carries strong importance); it's essentially ending one front and creating massive problems for the rest of the Bun war effort into the Federation. Strategically, this would be like the end of the Eastern Front in WW1.

Valdis Trautmanis

And can someone please remind me, what was special about Gruccud other than it being the Bun forward base for the Datsot campaign? Grionc landing marines instead of a full scale invasion with ground forces implies importancr and urgency

Valdis Trautmanis

No, MCM-148, it would only be a war crime if the enemy would obey civilised rules of engagement. Since they are not and are known for torturing POWs, the rules don't apply to them. Commence gunnery excercise "Fish in a barrel"
