Oh, Mike is absolutely focusing on the wrong part of that conversation, but "Where's the growth?" Probably shown in the fact that he noticed Paulo seeming distracted at all. He was REALLY bad at picking up on social cues back when he was obsessed with Sandy and constantly hyper-focysed on his phone. Also bear in mind that Paulo is VERY RARELY genuine and straightforward with Mike. Mike certainly could have just missed the context... or he could be using banter because that's the only way Paulo has actually opened up to Mike in the past. Overall betting on Mike being oblivious is a safe bet, but Paulo dishes out banter all the time, Mike knows he'll be able to take it in turn.

But doesn’t Mike have a relationship (friendship) with Daisy? Why wouldn’t he have been concerned about her leaving abruptly as well? And I don’t think he’s being rude to Paulo, I just don’t understand why he would need to cheer Paulo up. Paulo was just expressing concern about a friend, since when do people need to be distracted of that?

The birds nest comment doesn’t betray how Paulo feels about her, him being worried about her just dipping does lol I just get the sense that Mike is more worried about how Paulo is feeling about her than how Daisy is feeling to be walking away from the people she just saw a movie with. Maybe in the next page, Mike will tell him to go chase after her if he feels so strongly, but who knows.

id disagree that he can't pay attention here. the fact that he caught Paulo's little comment that gives away his feelings about Daisy is indicative of his actual paying attention. everyone else is too absorbed in their own thing, and Mike didnt manage to escape the David Onslaught until after Daisy had left. idk i just think he was okay here with that, despite it being, yes, rude to tease Paulo.
