She may be looking to use this as a way to break clean - trying to establish with him where he is mentally and use that as a board to dive into laying down her feelings. She's taken the hint from Paulo's message that Mike is suffering and is likely going to discuss it and end things with him to help him let go. I honestly think this is a great page to see, because this sort of conversation happens a lot in relationships (i.e. the awkward phone conversation with partner after some kind of shit blows up, that often tends to be devastating)
