Figure Drawing: Week 6

It’s funny how these updates are like.. seven weeks behind to where I’d be now, so we’re looking back at the past.
This session was the model’s first time!! And she was really great!! She did a bunch of poses and was quite dynamic :O

I went through a bit of a mental breakdown here. I HATED how this turned out, I got it ALL wrong!! I was so angry because she was making such a good pose and I totally messed up!!
I was really hating myself at the time of drawing this, I was losing time trying to correct issues (which you can see around her head) that I just said “screw it” and quickly tried to finish it :l Her head is bad, the torso is tiny, just an all-around mess.
I was so angry by the previous blunder than I tried to apply another COFA method which is to STOP DRAWING LIKE A GODDAMN ILLUSTRATOR. All my lines are bold!! It’s like I’m inking a body in and then shading!! But when working with charcoal, you get encouraged to work lineless, and use the shadows to your advantage. Make the shadows the linework, etc
It’s a bit time-consuming so 10 minutes felt like it flew right by, you can see the poor foot and hands that didn’t have time to be rendered ;_;
I was pretty miserable by this point. “WHY DO YOU KEEP BOLDING THINGS. STOP IT. STOP BEING AN IDIOT”
Back to the 2s!

I was pretty suicidal at this point lmao, I WANTED TO JUST JUMP OFF A BUILDING. I hate this 40-minute pose! I can’t seem to stop “inking” the body in!! I hate this!!! Aughghghdghhdfhg!!! This is so bad, she looks terrible, what is this!! What is wrong with me!!!
I had a huge cry after this class and was pretty much completely miserable. I looked up charcoal-drawing tutorials for the rest of the night trying to figure out why things just.. weren’t looking nice enough. I thought I was doing pretty alright in previous sessions, why do I suck so much now? I ended up buying different charcoal-supplies that help with blending, while also having a crisis and thinking that maybe it’s the medium that I suck at?? And maybe I should draw in watercolours instead??
I definitely miss watercolours and inkwash and know that charcoal is not my strong-suit. And the person who leads the sessions draws in AMAZING watercolours, so I felt like maybe I should do that instead. I was having a huge crisis here.
