I guess that went about as well as could be hoped. She laid out her past and what the deal is with her and her sisters to try and win back some trust. I think that may work. And I do honestly believe John does need some time to think about everything that's happened today. The fight, killing, monsters, mind fucking, and all the other revelations are a lot to take in individually, let alone all together. A nice breakdown in his room, some exhaustion slumber, and maybe some soul searching and he can tackle it all in the morning. Maybe even open up a bit more to Yuki in kind. Either way, conversation is only half done and he needs a plan to move forward. Great stuff!

I mean, he is an intriguing mortal, pushing science forward into magic in ways that no one else has seemingly done. That alone could be desired by anyone power-hungry. Imagine mass produced versions of his glove, provided to an army. That would significantly balance the power between mortals and Heaven. Kiku was using the Nameless to create an army, if she could also get access to John's technology, that army would be even more powerful. And if she could get John himself, and have him develop ever more powerful technologies? She'd be even closer to her goal. Yuki on the other hand, has less obvious goals. I think she is truly curious about John, and really is seeking a place to recuperate. She seems to be the more curious and introspective parts of the Kitsune's memories.

Quite interesting development. Though it might be much worse for the kitsune (See "Split brain experiments"). Apparently John has to put out everything to survive the wringer. The question remains... why both of the kitsunes want to have John? What for? And can Kiku be... negotiated?

I get that we as the readers are aware that Yuki picked up that John is likely from a world with no magic, but does he know that? If he doesn't it's a little weird that he is getting this bent out of shape over hiding crucial information when he is doing the exact samae thing. He's been trying not to ask any questions that make it seem like he isn't from this world after all.

In theory, it should be possible to jailbreak the restrictions and cut the bond the sisters have to each other. Quite possible John ends up as a key to being able to go beyond your own nature, due to his ability to study... Did we call it Qi here? This is like a Dao, but a curse.

i suspect that the original is effectively gone, even if only one remains. they are all new egos formed by parts of the original's memories sure, but they are unique beings now

Yes! Yes! This is exactly the existential dread I was hoping for. My guess is whichever kitsune is the last will hold the reins so to speak, even if all the memories return, the guiding personality will still be whichever kitsune took the path to get there, then memories will just fill a shell, that shell is one she's still making with every action she makes right now. But that's the only one theory. Another is that the final kitsune could be a blend of them all that's just enough Yuki to still be John's Yuki, even if it's not Yuki alone anymore, at least if it's going to have a happy ending. Idk. As it stands, she's already fragments of two sisters less Yuki than she was before. Or is it more Yuki? Another thought is that what if Yuki is the unnamed great Kitsune's most recent and last thoughts and memories? In that case she might actually be the closest thing to the final kitsune. Memories only influence things to a point, there is an element of choice on what to do with those memories

Between the Space

I'm interested in seeing what a "bugout" setup John could have that would be able to run from a kitsune lol
