Alright. So I might've gone a little overboard on this one but to be fair this is why you shouldn't stopper those feelings for a long time, John! And Yuki, but less so! Not thinking about them/putting them into words doesn't mean they magically disappear...unless?

There's a buncha neat interplay going on here, with multiple layers from multiple perspectives. Yuki's concerned about John's stress levels, and wants to grant some level of comfort to him. Also struggling with reconciling her past, past actions/behavior, and losing her current sense of self/morals when she regains More of herself. Letting loose a little helps her own stress levels, and from her perspective she WAS reasonable, she didnt even kill the guy! For now, she's got a smidge of normalcy from a random dude in a less-random fort without the burden of expectation she anticipated on arrival. Gives her time to maybe learn that recontextualizing memories drastically changes how they're perceived. John's compartmentalizing and burying frankly an impressive amount of emotional turmoil and trauma, while also willing to go with the flow when it comes to the first person who reached out to him. To hear Yuki out, in private, and to not chastise her simply for holding different values than him, even if that causes him a bit of grief/stress. He's struggling with the duality of his past isolationism vs these new developments while using the relatively undefined nature of his relationship with Yuki as a crutch to avoid the burden of acceptance. Naughty avoidance, John! They're both having a pretty rough time of it, and those neat little cultural differences keep showing up in odd/fun places. Since we didn't start with John's arrival to this locality, we get to explore his values and history in conjunction with Yuki's. Backdropped ofc with some major/minor world building, and the developing interpersonal connections outside of the duo. Huge soft spot for this story, thanks for sharing :)

If the "pearl" mentioned in that story by Yuki is in fact someone's soul or part of it, it's even darker. Those who were about to sell it are analogous to human/organ traffikers and most Earth governments would've done MUCH worse to them. So I'd say Yuki was REALLY nice here, all the deaths in that situation is arguably not her fault, cause noble could've just not execute them (for what, rly? For unable to stop kitsune from steal? For real?).

One day John won't gain a new headache. Not today, but some day in the distant future. Also interesting to see him grapple with the fact lives are much cheaper here than back home. For all Yuki can be helpful and friendly, she does not shy away from cold blooded murder. And from the sounds of it, she's the nice one in her family!
