i think the reason why the ending is great as it is, is because of how tough the ending really is despite the positive feeling ending . They still used the powers and all that knowing the sacrifices and ed copying his father leaving his son and daughter and all of that. It's sorta realistic. It's still a "good" ending but sorta of the best case scenario of reality (nobody's perfect and everyone's selfish).

Pretty sure he didn't get his leg because that was for the exchange with his mom, the exchange with al is what costed his arm
