“You think I am better friends with that bundle of chaos than you?”
“I think there is enough room in your heart for the three of us.”
“Yeah, Moi-moi!” Rave suddenly turned around and tossed a smaller pillow across the room. It smacked the unprepared Warden in the face with enough force that the soft object adhered to the Warden’s face. As she reeled from the impact, she heard the chaotic cat woman laugh. “Ya don’t need to be such a stick in the butt.”
Moira ripped the pillow off her face. “I will show you-“ She stopped herself before she could give the obnoxious woman in front of her a lay-up for an innuendo. With a valiant war cry, she leapt onto the large mattress that had been put in the middle of the room.
It was the field of the battle fought with a hundred pillows. The veritable ocean of the variously sized cushions turned into a stormy sea of flying fluff and battling warrior women. Finding a sufficiently firm cushion, Moira utilized her seasoned strategy of shielding herself with one arm, while tossing projectiles with the other.
Rave ducked and waved through the attacks, right up until a precision strike from Hailey struck her in the side. “HAHA-!” Moira began to laugh mockingly, only for the enigma engineer to catapult a different pillow into her face.
Total war was now the only reasonable response! Hailey and Moira erected pillow forts, to hide inside the trenches while picking up ammunition the enemy had so foolishly tossed in their direction. Any hope for a lull in combat was defeated by Rave’s gremlin soul. The mad cat burrowed through the lower layer of pillows and erupted from beneath the centre field, throwing anything and everything she had in all directions. Her opponents had no choice but to respond in kind.
“How livel-“ Lorelei’s mirthsome commentary was stopped by a faceful of cushion.
Moira froze for a second. Everyone did. Gravity made the pillow drop from Lorelei’s face and into her hand.
Now, the Warden knew that Lorelei was a healthy woman. The Order of the Golden Rose was clear in its mandate that all of humanity had to strive for a healthy soul in a healthy body. Lorelei doing a leg-raised baseball pitch was still an impressive feat. In one brief moment, Moira was reminded just how much more powerful Lorelei had become, following her entanglement with John Newman.
The seer’s first toss smacked Hailey in the face. Two more near instantly followed, striking Rave and Moira. After that, what had been total war transcended the realm of warfare and entered simple, chaotic brawling.
Moira wasn’t even sure how it happened, but they all ended up in a melee. Pillows clashed with one another and attractive women. A competitive spirit put a prayer on the redhead’s lips. She did not speak it, but she was quite close.
An overenthusiastic swing turned the pillows that she and Rave had been fencing with into two explosions of feathers. “I just did though.” Rave turned her beverage in her hand, looking at it as she did. “Come on, I know you like-like John.”

“Please, call me Moira,” the redhead whined. She could not stand formality right now. “And yes, his debauchery is displeasing, but he is, no doubt, touched by the Lady.”
“Further, the Lady has bestowed upon him the capacity to mark those dear to him.” Lorelei smiled, brighter than gold, as she caressed the mark upon her womb. “A signifier of whom his blessed seed shall blossom within. This, too, is undeniable, is it not?”
“…I would not put it in so venerating language, yet it is true.”
“Then!” Lorelei’s voice spiked to a fervent loudness. “Then…” she reined herself in, clasping her hand in prayer, “…if you, Moira, blessed Warden of the Shield, were to also join the harem, then there could be no doubt about its holiness. The man is blessed, the institution is blessed, and one of the most blessed women of all is within it. The Gamer having a harem is sacrosanct upon your arrival within it. By all rights, I should have found Justinian attractive, but he was just so whiny.”
“To be fair, your female instincts proved right on that one,” Rave chimed in.
Moira nodded into the darkness of her closed eyes. “So… if I am right again then… how did I end up here? I don’t know if I want this.”
“My first and deepest friend.” Lorelei’s hand soothingly brushed over Moira’s shoulder. “That, not even I can reveal to you. The choice is yours. It is important to me that you understand this. The Order’s doctrines can not halt you and I see no true selfishness in your soul. You must ask yourself no other question than that of your own desire.”
“…I don’t know.”
There was silence in the room for a bit. Moira almost felt like crying. She did not, ultimately, because she refused to let her emotions get that far out of bounds.
“Honestly, we made way more progress than I thought we would when I suggested this,” Rave announced. “So let’s stop grilling poor Moi-moi.”
“Poor Moi-moi,” the addressed muttered. “Lick a carpet, Jane.”
“John prefers us all smooth, so no chance of that happening.”
“I- you- urgh!”
There was no escaping the innuendos.
