Chapter 442: Watching the Sea is for Good Comrades
🕑 Added 2025-08-31 14:02:21 +0000 UTCSteve "Five-Five" Rogers, codenamed Captain America, was nicknamed Political Commissar Law.
This character first appeared in the MCU in "Captain America", but his presence at the beginning was not even as strong as Thor's.
After all, Thor can still rely on his brother-con personality and take advantage of Loki's popularity.
But what did Rogers have?
The love-hate relationship between Bucky and the Winter Soldier had just ended. Before the release of Captain America 2, few people knew about the Winter Soldier plot.
Coupled with that overly funny costume, Captain America's popularity before "Captain America 2" was not even as high as Black Widow's.
But "Captain America 1" has to be filmed.
If there was no accumulation of "Captain America 1" and we went straight to "Captain America 2".
Everyone’s first reaction was—
Why is this man with a pot lid on his back being so pretentious?
Without the story foundation of "Captain America 1", it would be difficult for the audience to appreciate the wonderful aspects of "Captain America 2".
But how should "Captain America" be filmed?
Nanaya tapped the table and thought carefully.
The "Captain America" in my memory is not really that outstanding, but it shows the characteristics of Captain America very well.
After all, Captain America has never represented a symbol of American patriotism, but a symbol of the American spirit.
At least, it is the most idealistic symbol.
Although everyone knows the nature of this world's policing, that doesn't stop it from being publicized, right?
Ironically, in "Captain America 1", Captain America described himself as a monkey being ordered around during the time he was selling bonds, and he even drew a picture to mock himself.
But in fact, the whole "Captain America 1" is also a promotional film.
The clip of Steve destroying various Hydra bases is essentially the same as when he was selling bonds.
It can only be said that for a character like Captain America who is born with political attributes, his movies will definitely be more or less tainted with these elements.
But Nanaya is a businessman after all. For him, the reviews of the "Captain America"movie are not what he cares most about. What really matters is making as much money as possible in business.
In terms of the overall layout of the movie and MCU, "Captain America: The Rise of the Captain" not only tells the origin story of Captain America, but also shows the best side of what Rogers represents.
It is most appropriate and correct to follow the original historical practices.
Although the film reviews are not outstanding, they are at least solid.
After all, Captain America is not Thor, so his appearance needs to be more steady.
But since he had no plans to make major changes to the plan, Nanaya felt that he could try to take advantage of the popularity in order to achieve higher commercial results.
Kevin Feige proposed that the film is expected to be released in 2008. What better year than this to take advantage of the popularity?
No more...
Thinking of this, Nanaya's mouth curled up.
Avi Arad saw his expression, and he placed all his hopes on Nanaya as if he had grabbed a life-saving straw.
Just now, there were several confrontations between Avi Arad and Kevin Feige, but they were all easily repelled by the other side.
Seeing the other party so relaxed, Arad realized that his old subordinate came prepared.
What is more important is the attitude of Washimine. Although Washimine Shion did not explicitly oppose him, Arad could clearly perceive that the other party not only did not blame him for exceeding his authority, but was encouraging Feige to do so.
"After all, Feige didn't formally submit it. It's just a draft. There's no need for you to get so excited."
Shion's words made Arad feel disappointed.
Currently, Marvel has been acquired by Washimine, and Washimine’s chairman has come out to support Kevin Feige. Arad can’t even find a reason to refute, because Marvel is now owned by Washimine!
Judging from the attitudes of other people at the meeting, the heads of other departments at Washimine neither support nor oppose the power grab within Marvel.
But this is not surprising. After all, Marvel was originally a relatively independent organization under Washimine Entertainment. Apart from business connections, other departments of Washimine are more like two companies at other times.
Therefore, Arad could only place his hopes on Nanaya Kiryu. As the largest individual shareholder of Marvel and Washimine Entertainment (Shion participated in the shares in the name of Washimine Head Office), he was the only one among all the people present who could compete with the big boss, Shion Washimine.
However, Arad was disappointed. Nanaya did not object out loud. He just looked at the information in his hand with a faint smile, and it was clear that he did not want to get involved in this mess.
Helpless Arad could only argue with Feige on his own, but as he spoke he found that he was really no match for Feige.
[Why didn't I realize before that this guy is so good at talking? 】
Arad wiped the sweat from his forehead with his hand. He looked at Feige's performance with clenched teeth in anger.
Pop.
Just when Arad was in despair, Nanaya finally put down the information in his hand.
"Director Kiryu, do you have anything to say?"
When Arad saw that Nanaya was finally going to speak, he immediately tried to seek help.
[The old man is desperate and is trying all kinds of treatments. ]
Kevin Feige rubbed his chin with his hand, appearing very confident.
Arad may not have much dealings with Nanaya, so he doesn't understand.
But Feige, who had been working with Nanaya on the "Iron Man" project, knew very well that Nanaya did not like Arad.
Or rather, Nanaya felt deeply disgusted with those old guys at Marvel who were too focused on restoring the comics.
"Regarding Thor and Captain America, I think it's a bit risky to start two projects at the same time."
Nanaya put his thumbs on his chin and said matter-of-factly, "After the success of Iron Man, the launch of Iron Man 2 is inevitable. In addition, The Incredible Hulk is currently in production. If we launch two movies at the same time, will it put too much pressure on the company's cash flow?"
"Yeah yeah."
Arad thought Nanaya was speaking for him, and he kept nodding in agreement.
It was already a fair accomplish that Kevin Feige had proposed a project plan without me, but these two plans must not be passed.
Otherwise, you would really be slapping yourself in the face.
The above is the only thought in Arad’s mind at the moment, so after Nanaya said this, he immediately came up to him in a servile manner.
"Even if we can't shoot right away, we still have to discuss the project first, right?"
Feige's eyebrows furrowed.
He didn't expect Nanaya to raise any objections, but he also knew that Marvel's current cash flow was indeed not enough to start four film projects at the same time.
In fact, Marvel's current financial situation is much better than in its original history.
Because there was no vampire like Paramount to suck blood from the distribution, and Washimine has always supported Marvel.
It is not impossible for Marvel to shoot four movies at the same time, but this will put its cash flow very tight.
This is a situation that Nanaya doesn't want to see.
Nanaya has always hoped that Marvel could produce and sell its own products, ensure a certain degree of independence, and preferably have separate financial accounting.
Washimine is indeed wealthy, but if Marvel continues to rely on Washimine to solve its financial problems, it will not be a good thing for its future development.
At the beginning, it was because Marvel had no money. Now that "Iron Man" has been a success, Marvel should learn to be independent.
There are many reasons for this, the most important of which involves Marvel's cooperation with other Hollywood film companies.
For example, working with Sony to produce the Spider-Man movie.
Or they could license some less important IP characters to small film companies, allowing them to shoot their own movies to enrich the MCU's worldview and product line.
This kind of thing has happened before in history. Marvel originally authorized Netflix to shoot a series of superhero web dramas including "Iron Fist" and "Luke Cage".
Marvel's old rival DC also has a case of handing over "Shazam" to Warner's younger brother New Line for production.
Nanaya hopes that Marvel can expand the diversity of MCU products in this way in the future, such as allowing companies that are good at shooting horror films to shoot "Ghost Rider", and allowing companies that are good at shooting R-rated movies to shoot "The Punisher" and so on.
Otherwise, when people mention Marvel in the future, the only thing that comes to their mind is family comedies.
If Marvel can conduct separate financial accounting, then IP licensing and other matters will become much simpler. After all, it is more convenient for two companies to do business than for three companies to cooperate.
"So my opinion is that the Thor project can be slowed down. After all, this hero is a bit special. He has a mythological background and needs careful planning. After all, in everyone's general impression, superhero movies should be more science fiction."
Nanaya tapped the table and expressed his thoughts, "But the Captain America movie project can already be put into operation. After all, 2008 is a great opportunity to promote this character."
"Perfect opportunity?"
Shion, Washimine and the others all had confused looks on their faces. Even Arad didn't understand what Nanaya was up to.
Instead, Feige looked thoughtful.
"The election." Nanaya saw that Arad, an American, didn't react, and said angrily: "Arad, haven't you paid attention to next year's election?"
"Forehead..."
Arad shook his head. Marvel's company was not big enough to participate in such high-end political activities.
"If you've been paying attention to the Democratic presidential candidate next year, you should know that they have nominated an African American to run."
Although Nanaya did not know every great president in American history, he was very clear about Comrade Obama and Mr. Cornhead.
"Director Kiryu, which gentleman do you think can be elected president?"
"It's not a big problem even if he doesn't run, after all, the second candidate of the Democratic Party is a woman." Nanaya shrugged and said, "No matter which of them runs for the presidential election, it will be a carnival of political correctness for the United States."
Movies are often a medium used to reflect people's lives.
Think about it, when the first black president in history was born, the American people were all hopeful that a new era was coming and that the United States would finally truly demonstrate the values of freedom and equality.
At this time, Marvel launched a movie that can reflect everyone’s current inner thoughts and launch a hero that represents the American spirit.
Is there any easier opportunity to make money at the box office than this?
No more.
