Chapter 441 Confrontation
🕑 Added 2025-08-30 14:37:41 +0000 UTCNanaya looked at Kevin Feige with a smile, wanting to know how the other party would answer.
You have to know that even Nanaya didn't know about the two projects "Thor" and "Captain America" in advance, so he couldn't judge whether Feige made the decision himself.
"It's going to be a bit troublesome indeed." Ori complained quietly, "The company is just starting to get better, is it okay to be so competitive?"
"This is capital and profit. Wait, is that true?"
Nanaya replied, but he immediately noticed Ori's choice of words.
"Well, the day before yesterday, Producer Feige and Miss Shion reported this matter. I wanted to ask for your opinion, but unfortunately you were useless at that time..."
When Ori said this, his expression when he looked at Nanaya seemed a little distorted, and there was a bit of disgust.
"Forehead..."
Nanaya recalled how he was like a useless person during the holidays, and his expression became a little embarrassed.
Fortunately, no one in the conference room noticed the little movements of Nanaya and Ori. Everyone's attention was attracted by the two Marvel bosses on TV.
After the success of "Iron Man", everyone knows that Marvel has gone from being a hated piece of trash to being a hot commodity in everyone's eyes.
Not to mention the commercial value of the "Iron Man" IP itself, the remaining Marvel IPs have also become very valuable for commercial development.
Even if the individual values of characters like Captain America and Thor are not as great as Tony Stark, when put together they can at least be on par with the X-Men series, right?
Therefore, control over Marvel Studios becomes very important.
In addition to external investors, Marvel also began to compete for the right to speak in the company.
As the largest shareholder and owner of Marvel Studios, Washimine Entertainment naturally began to pay attention to this hen that lays golden eggs.
But the most intense competition is the power struggle between the top two leaders within Marvel itself.
Avi Arad and Kevin Feige, who were working together at the beginning of last year, had already begun to have a tense relationship before the end of 2006.
The way they looked at this moment really confirmed that statement.
We can share adversity, but not wealth.
However, Washimine Entertainment's attitude towards the struggle between these two people is more like Nanaya's, with the mentality of watching the show.
Anyway, Washimine, who owns absolute shares of Marvel, will definitely not be the loser in this power struggle, so it is understandable that he wants to strike a balance.
Shion is more inclined to Kevin Feige, because Nanaya once said that he has a keen eye for superhero movies, while Avi Arad's ideas are a bit outdated.
Since Nanaya was so determined to invest in Marvel in the first place, his analysis of the company must be more accurate than my own.
But even so, Shion did not intend to express her opinion immediately. In her opinion, Kevin Feige's qualifications were still a little too young.
It would be safer to let Kevin Feige take over after two or three more projects are completed, or after the first phase of Marvel is completed.
But Shion also enjoys occasionally challenging Avi Arad's authority and slowly reducing his power.
If you want to rise to the top by stepping on the dead body of your old boss, you must first beat him until he is paralyzed. Otherwise, who will choose you?
"Kevin, I'm asking you a question. Why don't I know about the Thor and Captain America projects?"
Avi Arad noticed the situation on the other side of the TV screen. After discovering that several senior executives of Washimine were not surprised by this matter, he felt a sense of crisis in his heart.
Kevin Feige lazily leaned on the back of the bench, pretended to think for a moment, and then said slowly: "I am just submitting suggestions to the head office as a producer."
"What?"
Avi Arad bit his lip.
"After the success of Iron Man, I think it is necessary to develop new hero series for the diversified development of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As classic IPs of the Avengers, Thor and Captain America are put on the agenda. Isn't it a simple matter?"
Avi Arad was very angry: "I am asking why I didn't know?! You should report it to me first, right?! Shouldn't this matter be submitted together after we discuss it?"
Seeing Kevin Feige's indifferent look, Avi Arad felt the anger rising from his chest.
"I am just making suggestions to the leadership within the scope of my duties." The smile on Feige's face is just like that of a certain Mickey Mouse. "Aren't they discussing my proposal now?"
"Feige! Are you kidding me!?"
It was rare for Avi Arad, the kind-looking old man, to roar in anger.
However, Arad's anger was not groundless. After all, Feige's blatant overstepping of authority had touched his bottom line.
But Kevin Feige heard a hint of panic in the roar of his old boss.
As we all know, when Marvel was acquired by Washimine, its management was not replaced for the sake of company stability.
But Washimine rejected Marvel's application to establish the Marvel Story Creative Committee.
This organization was proposed by the Marvel elders headed by Avi Arad.
At that time, Washimine's response was that the original comics were too far away from the current era, and new blood was needed to provide good ideas for the movie.
However, the committee list proposed by Avi Arad has too few young people, so he hopes to revise it before applying again.
From that time on, Kevin Feige knew that Washimine did not like Avi Arad and his group of old people.
Since they don't like it, these old guys will have to give way to the young people sooner or later.
Especially when he was working on the "Iron Man" project later, Nanaya had no feelings for Avi Arad, but he often delegated various powers to himself.
This made Kevin Feige even more certain that Washimine wanted to replace Avi Arad with him.
At the same time, Kevin Feige also believed in his old boss who had experienced countless office struggles, and he also smelled something wrong.
He submitted the project application to Washimine without authorization.
Did he overstep his authority in this matter?
Maybe, but it is definitely not serious enough to require such a big deal or even a loud roar.
This is clearly a manifestation of Avi Arad's own guilty conscience.
Since the other party is guilty, of course we must take advantage of the victory and pursue him.
"I have no intention of fooling you, Avi. The idea I submitted to Miss Shion was originally a very imperfect draft. I just wanted to hear what Chairman Shion and Director Nanaya thought of the two film drafts I proposed."
Kevin Feige said calmly, "I originally planned to submit it to you after the revisions were completed, and then we would submit it to the board of directors for approval. I never expected that Miss Shion would bring it directly to the meeting for discussion. This was completely beyond my expectations."
Even though Feige doesn't have much hair left, he speaks a lot and it sounds like it really is true.
However, if we look into it carefully, what does it mean to submit all modifications together?
Kevin had no intention of letting Avi Arad get involved in the whole process, but instead treated him like a rubber stamp.
Nanaya narrowed his eyes. Instead of focusing on the power struggle within Marvel, he began to think about the feasibility of the two projects submitted by Feige, "Thor" and "Captain America".
Judging from the draft submitted by Kevin Feige, although it is different from the two films that Nanaya remembered, the backbone of the film has not changed.
Except for "Iron Man" and "The Avengers", the reviews of other movies in the first phase of MCU are generally not high, and can basically only be considered passing.
There are many factors involved, the most critical of which is that Marvel's first-phase safety strategy made them dare not make major changes to the film.
Basically, the stories in the first phase are very close to the original comics, and even have a distinct retro style.
Especially for the movie "Thor", if you use the formula of the three-act play of commercial movies "the protagonist learns [the truth] from [a lie]" to apply to the origin movies of the three Marvel giants, you will find that "Thor" is the most strictly produced according to this formula.
Tony Stark's mission change was completed in the cave scene 30 minutes before the movie opened; and Steve Rogers learned the facts from the beginning, and he never had any doubts or confusion about his beliefs in "Captain America".
But the final result of "Thor" is not pleasing to the eye, but rather extremely mediocre.
The only merit of this movie is probably that it introduced the audience to Loki, the most popular villain in the MCU.
My brother abused me thousands of times, but I treated him like my first love. This is the most touching brotherhood in history.
In fact, before "Thor 3: Ragnarok", few people would say that their favorite Avenger would be Hammer.
Although many people criticize that the plot of "Ragnarok" is too comedic, lacking the heaviness of mythology and epic feeling.
In response to this, Nanaya said that first of all, this is a comic-adapted movie, not a myth-adapted movie.
Secondly, Marvel leaned towards the epic direction in "Thor 1" and "Thor 2", but everyone knows the final result.
So, letβs face reality.
Marvel is not suitable for making heavy epic movies, just like Satoru is not good at making R18 games.
There are some things that you are not good at and you cannot force it.
In Nanayaβs impression, the only superhero movie with epic temperament is "Aquaman", but Director Wen is too young now.
Although he already has experience in producing "Saw", it is still unknown whether he can handle a movie with an investment cost of hundreds of millions.
Therefore, after excluding the routine of epic mode.
Nanaya feels that if "Thor" wants to impress people, it must take an unconventional approach.
On the contrary, the "Captain America" project is more feasible.
