Stormside 0.22 delayed by a couple days. (For real, just a few days)
🕑 Added 2023-09-01 10:51:49 +0000 UTCRiley sad. Understandable.
That's right, I'm a triple A dev now. (Or would a triple A dev just release it in a broken state then patch it later? Oh well.)
This was a hard decision, but I think it's for the best. Basically, while all of the content is complete in 0.22, and it's fully playable, it hasn't been tested, and there are various things that I didn't get time to finish, but will be able to with a few more days. It was a choice between releasing a version right now that technically works, but doesn't really have all the correct functionality, and then releasing a better version in a few days, or just waiting and only releasing that better version. I've decided on the latter, simply because the version that I would otherwise be releasing today doesn't represent what the update is meant to be like (Aside from the content. Content is fine. )
Sorry guys. This sucks, I know. However, I do think it's the right decision. The only actual reason for me to just release it now would be to make myself technically correct when it comes to the August release thing (Since it's still August in Pago Pago for another 10 minutes at time of writing.)
Since that sounds stupid, you'll just get an actual complete version in the next few days. For a comparison as to why I think this delay is justified despite the content being complete, see below.
Both versions
Full content completion.
400+ animations
5000+ renders
19 - 23 sex scenes depending on whether you consider alternative scene versions to be scenes.
New pages in the profile screen
New gallery system
A VN version of the ghost hunt
I have no idea how many hours of gameplay.
Replacement of all of the outfit animations
0.22
Only partially complete sound rework (Which is basically changing the sound in the earlier game so the moans don't blow your eardrums out.)
Only partially completed filesize crunch. (More on that below)
Only partially updated sex stats for the new characters.
Only partial support for the new moan volume slider (Works on the 0.22 content, but doesn't on most of the existing content)
Partially functional replay system for the new scenes. (As in, you can unlock them, but can't actually play some of the replays at the moment. You can still get the scenes in the game though.)
Currently, no full test, so I'm not 100% sure that all variables that are supposed to fire, or scenes that are supposed to play, actually play under all circumstances.
Only partially completed in game walkthrough. (This is a big one. 0.22 includes some fairly important choices regarding what route you end up on with some of the girls, so walkthrough players really might wanna wait for this.)
Kinda clapped profile screen because I straight up haven't had time to swap it to non white text on white background.
0.22.01
Basically all of the above, except actually finished (Except for possibly the filesize crunch since that takes ages, but that'll definitely be done in the next 2 weeks I think.)
As for what the filesize crunch is... Basically the size of this game will become silly over time, so I'm implementing a system to reduce that by converting renders which are just facial expression changes to sprites, so that there's nothing in the image except the new facial expression, then having that lay over the top of a base image instead. Issue is, this takes ages to actually do, which is why I haven't finished it yet. It may also mean that depending on when you made your save, your save may load looking very strange. This can be fixed by just rolling back until the camera angle totally changes, or just keep playing, and it'll fix itself.
Anyway, as said above, apologies for this. It'll just be a couple days. Maybe Sunday. It just feels a bit silly to release an update and then say "But wait, don't actually play this one probably... Instead just wait a few days for this better version of the same thing."
So instead, I'll just release the better version of the same thing. I thought I was gonna be able to finish it in time, but after being up for like 40 hours or working on either the game, or my actualy job (-3 hours for sleep at some point in there), I kinda got hit with a reality check.
So yeah, it'll be out in a few days, in a form that I'm more confident in. Sorry guys.

You shouldn't do, no. I haven't had any of my saves broken, nor any saves from others. There are various changes to the early game, but it's mostly things like reworking sound effects, adding new ones, adding transitions, etc. The only major story change (Which isn't really major) is that now when you hook up with Cassie at your house near the start of the game, you get the choice after about whether or not you become friends with benefits. (Previously, it would happen automatically, and technically speaking start her romance path, which isn't ideal) This change isn't enough to justify restarting though, unless you're planning to persue Cassie's slave route, but even then I'll likely be putting something in to ensure save compatibility when the time for that content comes.
