They both seemed glad for something to eat. There was attention at the dinner table. Tom took in the young man sitting across from him. He was not a handsome guy but he wasn’t exactly ugly either, just rough with a permanently insolent expression. He was about the same height as Tom but thin and lean. His unassuming appearance, in some ways, made it more exciting that Sarah should be so obsessed with him. Right now, however, she was trying to be good but she kept on glancing at him with longing, likely without realising it.
“So, how old are you Kian?” Tom asked.
“Twenty,” he answered.
“Do you have a job, go to school?”
“No.”
Tom was struggling with these monosyllabic answers. “And you are moving in?”
“Looks like it.” There was a deep and heavy pause. Kian ate some of his food. He shoved it into his mouth with his elbow on the table. “Did you make this?”
“Yes, I do most of the cooking. Is something wrong with it?”
“Naa, it’s good, it’s just…” Kian clearly looked unimpressed about something.
“What is it?” Tom asked.
“I mean, doesn't seem right, the man doing the cooking,” said Kian with obvious scorn.
“That’s an old-fashioned view,” said Tom. “Some of the greatest chefs in the world are men.”
“Yeah, but they are getting paid. You are just being pussy whipped into doing something she should do.”
Tom laughed but there was no mirth in it. “Trust me, you are better off eating my food. I love you Sarah but you aren’t the best cook.” He was trying to keep it light but regardless of the fact he was sleeping with his wife, Kian was just pissing him off.
“It’s true, he’s much better than me,” said Sarah. She was looking worried.
“Just because you weren’t brought up right to know how to cook is a pretty poor excuse. You should have taught yourself. Just because this sorry excuse for a man let you push him around doesn't mean I think it’s right.”
Tom stood up fiercely. Seeing his reaction, Kian jumped to his feet as well. “Please don’t fight,” shouted Sarah.
“Shut up bitch, this is between men,” said Kian.
Tom felt his blood surge but he had enough sense to know that Kian telling her not to get involved was a good thing. She would listen to him but if Tom took this in the wrong direction he would risk losing Sarah. “You want to talk like men? Fine. In that case, I will tell you how it’s going to be and you can like it or get out and if you don’t I will drag you out by your scrawny balls, you hear me?” The two of them were facing up now. “You want to live here? Fine. You want to fuck my wife? Fine. But if you keep disrespecting me in my own house. If you take advantage of my generosity and show me any hint of goddamn disrespect, then I will beat you down and throw you out.
“If you can respect that then we will get on like a house on fire. I may even keep cooking for you instead of putting up with whatever Sarah makes you out of your overblown idea of what a man is. Now, are we good?” He stuck his hand out for Kian to shake but he didn’t let his guard down. He was half expecting Kian to sucker punch him. Whatever was going through the young man’s head he clearly came to a decision. He took Tom’s hand and shook it. They both sat down again, both men looking at each other until Tom took a drink and the moment was gone.
“I still think it’s a bit fucked up,” said Kian.
“You are welcome to your opinions but that’s how it is here,” said Tom.
After some more eating in silence, Kian spoke up. “So how does this work? With her I mean,” said Kian gesturing towards Sarah.
“As far as I am concerned she is still my wife. I do not expect you to interfere with that and all the other things that go along with that. We will do things together as normal couples do and that is our time. When it comes to sex, it is quite clear that I am not of interest to her. What you guys do together is up to you. I won’t interfere unless I think you are trying to work against me somehow. Keep it civil and everything should be fine.” He gave Kian a stern look.
Kian nodded as he thought it through. “No rent?” he asked.
“If you can keep being respectful I will not ask you to pay any.”
“Well you are already a step above my mom,” joked Kian. “Alright, boss man. I stay chill and get free board and a hot pussy to fuck. Sounds like a good deal to me.”
Sarah let out an audible sigh and smiled. Kian opened up a bit and started talking after that. Tom was still not keen on the guy but at least they seemed to have reached an agreement.
After dinner, Sarah went up to Kian and said, “I’m just going to help tidy up and then I’ll help you get your room sorted, okay?”
Kian pulled her in for a kiss and squeezed her butt. He looked over at Tom as if testing the waters but Tom gave no reaction which seemed to please Kian. “Sure, baby. Then maybe we can pick up where we left off.”
“I hoped you’d say that. I won’t be long,” she said and kissed him again. Kian walked out and Sarah went and wrapped her arms around Sarah. “Thank you. I know this is tough on you but I can’t tell you how much I need this. I was so scared for a moment back there. Would you really have attacked him?”
“Probably. I can tolerate a lot, hell, even enjoy it but I knew I needed to lay down the law with that guy.”
“I don’t know what I would have done if you had,” she said.
“I think I do and while it’s the last thing I want, I do have some pride left.”
“Did I take your pride away?” she asked, worried.
“No, I lost it a while back. Come on, don’t worry any more. We can work this out. I think he gets where I’m coming from. You can remind him.”
“I’ll try. I’m not very good at standing up to him. I tend to give in when it’s him.”
“I know,” said Tom, kissing her cheek. “Just do your best and don’t forget to hug me like this from time to time.” She gave him a big squeeze. He felt himself stirring at the feel of her breasts pressing against him. That was what he craved. Being turned on by such meagre contact with his wife. For her to be as unattainable as he had always felt she was when they were young. “Go on, I’ve got this tonight but don’t get used to it. I’m sure he’ll expect you to keep a clean house.”
Sarah let go of him and gave a guilty smile. “He’s got some controversial opinions.”
“And if he tells you to clean?”
“Well, if it makes him happy.” She shrugged and dashed off.
He didn’t see her for the rest of the night. He heard her. Her moans of pleasure rang through the house until bedtime and beyond. He was under no delusion that things would be settled but at least it gave him some time to adjust.
