I just thought it would look cool (a similar scene does happen in Part 9) and poor Stunner hasn't been featured on a Cover since Issue 1. Crook is overdue for a cover shot now.
Its interesting to see them using high-tech firearms. Perhaps there powers are nullified by a weapon or a being. Also this brings the Terminator future war scene vibes.
