Late addition to infodump, but: -The kansei purge is based on the Ansei purge, a period from 1858-1860 during which people who did not support the Shogunate’s foreign policy were jailed, exiled, or executed. There were over 100 people of authority that fell victim to the purge, and even more laymen that we do not know of. -Yoshida Shoin, the IRL Yoshida Shoyo, was an intellectual and teacher of politics and military arts who was beheaded during the Ansei purge for attempting to stop the shogun from meeting with the emperor.

That Oboro phrase.. "You can shout, you can scream, but your voices will never reach the havens. And neither will your sobs". While displaying the image of Gin, Zura and Takasugi around a decapitated Shouyou... Wow !!! Speechless !!!!

Hearing Takasugi say "say hello to Sensei for me," with that evil grin is so cathartic, they all knew this man was responsible for the purge, and Takasugi got to reign his justice on him. Oh boy, its all popping off, we have maybe one more serious arc before it all comes together, everything is just about set up!!

Infodump: -Oboro is in fact voiced by the same VA as Kakashi, which seems kinda appropriate, since his techniques (pressure points/gentle fist, senbon needles, rasengan) seem to be straight out of Naruto. -Tenshoin Naraku means: “shining heavens school: hell.” -Oboro’s title: “Yatagarasu” is based on a legendary 3-legged crow that appears when the will of the heavens intervine in human affairs (in Gintama’s case, the Naraku consider the Tendoshu and their puppets the “heavens”). More generally, it’s a crow-god that symbolizes guidance. -like in the show, the Hitosubashi was a branch family of the Shogun’s Tokugawa family.
