DxD: DO System 5
🕑 Added 2024-12-31 13:55:12 +0000 UTCChapter 5: The Dragon of Domination
Issei's eyes were locked on the ticking clock.
11:55.
Just five more minutes until the new day, and the end of the week.
Shirtless, drenched in sweat, and focused, he waited.
He had pushed his body through grueling training from dawn to dusk, and now it was time to see if his effort had paid off.
<Quest: Improve your physical capabilities —strength, speed, and dexterity within a week!
Day: 6/7>
<Rewards: (Boosted Gear Unlocking Mechanism), (Issei Hyoudou Memories)>
For now, he was insignificant in the supernatural world. But that was about to change in just two minutes.
11:58.
Issei wiped the sweat from his face with a damp towel and let the cool breeze from the fan hit his skin.
He had done everything he could. He was content. And if the system still didn’t recognize his progress, he wasn’t going to push any further.
But he hoped it wouldn’t come to that.
11:59.
The answer was only a minute away.
He took a deep breath, drank a full litre of water, threw on a T-shirt, and pressed his hands against the chair, closing his eyes.
The clock continued its relentless ticking, his heartbeat pounding louder in his ears.
And in that moment of anticipation, he felt his body heating up.
Then, just as he searched for his balance—he heard a chime, and saw a message appear before his eyes.
<Congratulations! You have completed the quest!>
For a moment, he couldn’t believe it. It felt unreal.
For an entire week, he’d pushed himself to his limits—breaking and rebuilding his body, giving everything to grow stronger.
And now, his hard work had finally paid off.
He just couldn’t wrap his head around it.
“Damn,” he chuckled nervously. “I actually did it.”
<Quest: Improve your physical capabilities —strength, speed, and dexterity within a week!
Day: 7/7>
He had done it. He had completed the quest.
<Reward Acquired: (Boosted Gear Unlocking Mechanism), (Issei Hyoudou Memories)>
And as the quest finished, another prompt appeared at the edge of his vision.
<Synchronize Issei Hyoudou’s Memories: Yes/No>
<Unlock The Boosted Gear: Yes/No>
He had the choice to unlock the memories or leave them be. For a brief moment, curiosity got the better of him, and he wondered if pressing ‘no’ would delay the pop-up or remove it entirely.
But after that split second of foolishness, he slapped himself mentally and forced himself to think seriously about the decision.
‘Which one should I choose first?’ he wondered. ‘The memories?’
It seemed like the best option. If he unlocked the dragon’s power without the memories, things could get complicated.
He didn’t even know if the dragon could tell he wasn’t meant to be the host, but to have any chance of explaining that, he needed the memories.
‘That’s it.’
Without hesitation, he pressed ‘Yes.’
<Implanting Issei Hyoudou’s Memories.>
It felt strange to him that the system didn’t consider him Issei Hyoudou, even though his name appeared on the status screen. But then again, it made sense.
The system wasn’t really his—it was likely tied to his soul.
As his thoughts lingered on the system, he began to feel a heavy sensation in his head. The pressure built, and soon, excruciating pain shot through his skull like a hammer striking it.
“Ugh!” he gasped, clutching his head and falling to his knees.
“Ahh!” he groaned, the pain intensifying, as if his very blood vessels were about to burst.
It was a pain he couldn’t explain, a torturous, unbearable ache.
Unable to stand it, he collapsed, writhing on the floor with muffled cries. It was as if his body wasn’t meant to endure this.
But along with the agony came something else—memories.
The first moment he could recall was his birth—the day he opened his eyes and saw a young, nervous couple standing over him.
His parents, overwhelmed with joy, smiling down at him.
Then, his memories began to flood in—his childhood, the struggles to make friends, but also the bond he formed with a boy who became his closest friend.
“No!” he cried out, his voice breaking. “Don’t go!”
He saw his friend leaving for another country, their parting words echoing in his mind.
And then the memories continued to pour in, one after another.
The memories continued to flood in, from his childhood—watching cartoons to finding magazines and obscure material. The constant struggle to connect with people, the uncertainty about his goals, and the growing addiction to porn.
It disgusted him, but these were Issei’s memories—his memories—and there was nothing he could do about it.
The memories kept coming. He saw himself entering Kuoh, making friends with Motohama and Matsuda, finally finding his own group after a long time of feeling disconnected.
With each memory, the pain intensified. He tried his best to hold back his cries, to stop himself from groaning, but it was impossible to control. He barely kept himself from shouting, from waking his parents.
Minutes passed, each one dragging on, bringing a mix of physical agony and embarrassing memories. His body was drenched in cold sweat.
“I-It’s over,” he muttered, still too weak to rise.
But now, something inside him felt clearer.
‘He really did spiral into a porn addiction because of loneliness, didn’t he?’ he thought.
It was sad, but it made sense. Addiction was often a form of escape, no matter the substance or behavior. Issei was no different.
Yet, his pity for him lasted only a moment.
“What a fucking loser,” he muttered under his breath. “He was never alone.”
His memories showed him the truth. People had reached out to him, he did have friends. It was him who couldn’t believe in them, couldn’t trust them enough to let them in.
“He made his parents worry.”
He saw the sacrifices his parents made for him in his memories, and how he had ignored all of it.
“How much people cared.”
His childhood friends, the ones he played with, had tried to reignite their friendship. But him? He let it all slip away.
It was pitiful. And he was the one to blame.
He had shut everyone out, and in doing so, had ruined his social life.
‘No more,’ he promised himself. ‘I’m not going to live like an absolute clown.’
He was going to live like a human being, not like someone others saw as trash.
‘I have everything I need to live a good life.’
With that thought, he glanced at the text that hovered near him.
<Unlock The Boosted Gear: Yes/No>
This time, there was no hesitation. Without a second thought, still lying on the ground, he pressed ‘Yes.’ The moment he did, a wave of drowsiness washed over him, pulling him into unconsciousness.
"W-What is happe—"
Before he could finish his sentence, Issei's eyelids shut on their own, and his consciousness faded away. He felt himself torn from his physical body, transported to a realm that existed neither in life nor death—a place utterly inaccessible to everyone except for a select few. And he, now one of those few, was trapped there.
Everything around him was dark. He couldn’t see, but he could feel.
The air shifted in temperature, constantly fluctuating. The gravity seemed far stronger than what he was used to. And a deep sense of nervousness crept into him, growing by the second.
Amidst the chaos of sensations, a voice echoed through the darkness.
“How long has it been?”
The voice was deep—almost terrifying—like it belonged to something ancient and powerful.
“How long has it been since I last woke up?”
Issei stayed silent, his body trembling under the oppressive weight of the voice, the pressure of its presence far too overwhelming for him to even respond.
“Must have been long,” the voice continued, its tone indifferent. “But it doesn’t matter. Time only matters in the world outside.”
Issei instantly knew who the voice belonged to. The weight of it alone was enough to shake him to his core.
“But this place is not what it is supposed to be,” the voice rumbled.
Issei was confused. He didn’t understand what it meant.
“Tell me, boy,” the voice demanded. “Why are we here? In this darkness?”
Issei had no answer, the question leaving him even more perplexed.
“I… do not know,” he said, his voice barely a whisper, feeling even more lost than the being he was speaking to.
“Confusing,” the voice mused, almost to itself. “I was meant to be in my realm—fiery and chaotic. But now, I am in this ghastly silence, surrounded only by this strange light.”
‘Light?’ Issei thought, his confusion deepening. But then, from his left, he felt a strange warmth.
He turned his head, and his eyes widened as he saw a growing sphere of light.
“Tell me, boy,” the voice asked again, its tone heavy with curiosity. “You are responsible for the sphere of light, are you not?”
“I—”
Before Issei could deny it, the voice cut in.
“After all, only a soul from an unknown realm that overtook another could explain this situation.”
At that, Issei’s eyes snapped open in shock.
“So, tell me,” the voice commanded, its presence now manifesting as a pair of massive golden eyes with slits for pupils, tearing through the darkness. “What did you, the intruder, do with the original soul?”
At that moment, a few words flashed before his eyes.
<Race: Dragon (Domination Personified)>
<Rank: Peak-Transcendent Class>
“If you lie,” the voice growled, its tone becoming harrowing, “I shall destroy you.”
Before Issei could even react, the sphere of light exploded, enveloping everything—the darkness, his body—in a blinding burst of light.
In that instant, he heard and saw words.
<Longinus: Boosted Gear successfully assimilated!>
<Congratulations! You are the New Red Dragon Emperor!>
As the message vanished, Issei’s breath caught in his throat as something terrifying appeared before him.
A creature.
Monstrous, massive, and covered in scales.
Red as blood, larger than a football stadium, with a presence that burned brighter and hotter than fire.
“Ddraig…” Issei whispered, both terrified and awed by the majestic creature looming before him.
He was entranced by the Dragon of Domination.
