Maybe it's cos it's personal on my behalf, but, after re-listening to DNK just this morning, I have to say the Droditch wasn't even the true villain of the story; just a force of nature/cosmic energy of some sort. The real villain was Lisa. Maybe it's because, as I said, of personal experience where, in my HS yrs (85-89), I always had the wonderful luck of crushing on or even falling for girls who, in the end, might've been nice to me but either didn't come even close to feeling the same way, not even in the least bit interested (the dreaded 'you're a sweet guy, aka DNK') or, in one case, knew my feelings but, in her own cruel manner, flaunted her 'bad boy' bf towards me once she had an inkling that I had liked her. Ppl today, of course, like to twist those adolescent feelings around and claim the guy (or girl, and it CAN be a girl) is being a creep. But it's different when one is 15-15 yo and when one is grown. That Lisa admits that the guy who was so besotten w/her that he thought nothing of his young life to save hers would still think of him as an irritant & a deterrent to who she wanted to date, decades later, isn't a new or unusual thing. It's how ppl are. But hopefully the guy doesn't listen to the dvd commentary. I think back 35 yrs and, being reminded of fickle teenagers compared to the (in) curable Romantic I was (very cured now), I'm glad there wasn't a Demon that I felt I had to save the girl who ended up twisting her knife in my heart for her 17yo jollies. But that's just me.

It always fits without fail, and I think it does have a permanent subtle effect on the way I imagine things as I actually record the words... I haven't changed any details on the page because of what I see in the art, but what it does is keep me zeroed in on the mood and the atmosphere as I narrate; the art whispers to me, "Remember, the story has to come out at least this evocatively." (In a couple of instances, I've realized there is no way I can get things as scary as the art suggests, ha!)

Interestingly, I tell S. Patrick Brown as little as I possibly can about the stories he creates art for, so he's working in the dark by feel much of the time.....

Well, only the people seem malevolent on purpose. So it is a solid Karen. Father Hall delved into the supernatural, and he is evil, but not necessarily my neighbor that could harm people in real life. An awfully dull way to judge villains as it takes the fun out of fiction. Oh, well. Better get back to my pet tarp. We like finding secrets and then hiding them. My sweet tarp!

Part of the Father Hall choice for me at least is that Possession shares the rare distinction of being a "bad vibes"/"feel bad" Knifepoint Horror story that I haven't summoned the ability to listen to more than twice, along with Sideswipe, Endgame, Late Checkout, and Rink. One way I'd try to sell my friends on these though is that they all manage to achieve this effect without any of the cynicism or gratuitous ugliness that a lot of movies with those qualities use.

Not at all unexpected to see Father Hall at the top. The podcast's had its share of amazing villains, and he's masterfully written. My fav is the thing from vision's end, even if it is only described in detail in one occurence. But that sight haunts me still.

Well, I voted for it because A. It will be much easier to carve out of marble than the other things. And B. Because I just had to clean a bunch of tarps that were laying around collecting god-knows-what and I can see now how easily some evil might get trapped and condemn my family to generations of torment. Also, will the reflecting pool have an aquatic horror lurking beneath the surface? Because it should.

Father Hall's origin story would make an awesome story on its own. I've often daydreamt about a sprawling Naroth-esque adaptation of possession whose third act transports us to a logging camp in the frozen Up Yonder

Look, I know the logical answer is Father Hall, but the whole #justicefortarp movement? It really grew on me. Plus, if anyone ever watched that BBC Christmas ghost story version of “Whistle and I’ll Come to You,” you know that sheets and sheet-like wraiths can absolutely give you nightmares.
